Running in Chapter 3 (Spoilers?)

I've played the chapter twice now (finished the game once) and no one else seems to be talking about it anywhere. The sequence where you run past the city skyline, it really gets to me. There is something about just running for that long with the music and the background and then the flying ship that zooms by and the words, and of course Pidgeon Prime is just sitting there watching you as it all happens. It's one of those sequences in the game that really moves me for some reason.

Does anyone know more about the city? It seems futuristic, especially with the ship that flies past you. Is there any reference to what it is anywhere that I have missed? I don't remember it being discussed anywhere else. Society ended in what we think of current day, right? Or is it set in the near future where flying cars are normal?

Society collapsed sometime in the late 2040s, I think 2048? From what I recall the ship that flies by looks like a VTOL. The location could be anywhere, but my guess is that it's the ship they took to Iris' school from chapter 1's events. The giant pigeon's presence would imply it's around the same time
