Food build - need advice
Hi!
I always ended up in starvation :steamfacepalm:

My question is: what do you have to do at the start?
When building the first farms?

Is there a general build for the first 20 villagers? How many collect food, how many wood etc...

I just played AOE 2 on a casual noob level. In that game, it feels food is so much more important.

Buuut its fun, even i would lose every game, but at least i dont want to lose because of starvation :steamhappy:

Thanks!

You usually want to place your first 6 vils on hunt and keep rotating them to new hunt spots whenever your current spot runs out. Then you can go 2-4 vils on clay depending on what you plan on building, and the rest of the vils on wood. Every time you have an excess of 50 wood that you don't need right at that moment, you can make a farm with it, and that's how it goes for the rest of the game. You can always send wood vils to make granaries and gather fruit trees any time during the game, but that's up to you.

Wheel and Plough are the best eco techs you can get to boost your food eco by a quite significant margin, at least once you have enough farms down.

You can find a lot more details if you want, just join the TFC discord, there's a nice community there ready to help :nyanbomb:

Hello, thank you for your help! I will try it out.
Until now, i have made it so unorganized :steamfacepalm:
And my problem was, that i created too much houses and didnt stop the villagers production and i always had unemployed villagers, who needs food too...

I will try out your plan :steamhappy:

At least, i won against the beginner AI with my play :steammocking:

I can also guide you through a skirm with AI by spectating you, if you ever wish so :CatPeep:

You should make them harvest berries in the beginning and rotate when the area gets empty

Don't forget orchard to boost food economy

The game needs a simple number showing your food production vs demand... existing surplus is irrelevant if you are quickly reacting to something and move vills from one job to another...

You can see the food consumption by hovering over the food UI. For reference, 50 farmers is enough to sustain 200 food upkeep and also net you extra (with plough & wheel techs). Now that the game has orchards, it's even better.
