Am I an idiot or is something broken with the sights?

I can't get the the aiming down sights to work. I've tried linking the gun to a sight but still RMB does nothing when I load the tank.
No matter what I do I can't get the aim button to do anything at all. I've looked at the crew and none of them give the option to assign them to a gunner's sight. The turret traverses and the gun elevates, reloads and fires but for the life of me I can't get the sights to function.

huh, the keymapping menu says scope is on RMB and shift is camera pan.

All good if not but have you dealt with this issue? I also have the same problem.
