More tanks, tbh. Thicker tracks & road wheels do help a little but you'll still lose tracks a lot. I do the same thing to the AI, mind.
Repairing tracks in combat is horribly unrealistic unless it's a very simple thing like a pin ( as a thought experiment, imagine changing a car wheel in combat and then imagine trying to do it with a really heavy tank track instead ), and even that would be a nightmare. Getting a shot through a road wheel pops the track off the tank which is not really something that should happen instantly though.
With Total undisputed Battle field control.
By Mid War the Germans became very good at recovering their Tanks mainly at night in the Desert campaign at until they were on the back-foot .
I doubt any crew would attempt to repair any of the later Mediums and Heavy tanks .
just simply abandoning them for an hopeful recovery .
I have won Battles in the game after been tracked if your tanks is well armored and you have a gun line of sight over the battle area .
the most common map for been Track is Fields because they have an height advantage to start with . I also tend to build lower profile tanks with well sloped armor .
this can prove a problem seeing over some of the hills on this map.
But Tracking happens to quickly regardless of track thickness.
As for the track problem, I’d like to see them get a bit more durable, but battlefield repairs probably shouldn’t be implemented. (Also, on most of my designs, I can still usually get some movement in either a straight line or slightly turning if one track survives. Not ideal, but until both tracks get shot off I can usually limp around a bit…)
This remains the biggest flaw of the latewar senarios, as long as the firepower can be one shot tracks.
The problem is when there is an enemy tank alive and it gets stuck somewhere on the map.
I would love some armored skirts though!
