How does one get the gears to work?

As things stand, I can only get into sixth gear by jumping the tank (yes, jumping it) or firing the tank's cannon in the opposite direction of travel. I have found no reliable means of achieving the seventh gear.

I feel like it is necessary to give the drivers hammers at this point for the final gear shifts. I have tried adjusting the gears up and down by 0,01 repeatedly until I could get the best speed and then until I could get the most gears to work but to not avail.

a big detail of gear change is the engine RPM limits. once the engine reaches it's max rpm limit it changes up gears and once it reaches its min rpm limit it change gears down.

so basically you want to place rpm limits within the actual rpm range. like if the engine can do a max is 1100 rpm you want a top limit below it, like 1000 or so so it gears up.

Ah, so having the target maximum match the actual maximum is not a good idea. Thank you for the help.

Also, if you remove all your gears and then add more by pressing the '+' button the game will automatically add gear ratios to the next ones. Start with one gear and let the game scale the other gears by just adding more and then find a sweetspot by just keep doing this over and over again with a different first gear.

Do you have any idea what the power@ slider does?

The power slider is just a preview, I think. It helps you determine the overall power and power/weight ratio at the RPM you set, so you can predict the mobility of the vehicle at that RPM.
