"Insufficient force to aim the cannon"
How. It's a short barreled 76mm with a medium mantlet and the torque cranked to max. Why can I not aim.

Hi,
Could I ask what era you're playing in?

This seems to apply to all eras, I can barely use a 88 in latewar .2 degrees/sec traversal.

12kN force in each era so far

All era, it's constantly an issue. And also I have no idea how to manually change era, but it's been an issue on interwar up to latewar. The tank worked fine in the testing area.
And yeah as Kik says even if I DO cut barrel length down to a comically short length (and somehow retain 1,000m/s...? what?) it's EXTREMELY slow, to the point where 90% of my deaths are because I'm sitting there waiting 5-10 seconds for my barrel to raise a couple degrees.
Made a casemate 130mm TD only to realize that the gun doesn't work :D

I love this game and it does what I've been looking for in a game for a decade. But jesus this needs to be fixed. The only guns that work are dinky little ones and that doesn't make any sense.
"insufficient resources" oh okay nevermind anyway.

From messing around in-game it appears to be specifically an issue caused by messing with barrel thickness, as it vastly increases the weight of the gun, even on smaller caliber weapons. This is rather annoying because if you look at the majority of tank guns they're not just a tube, there's 2-piece barrels or if you go back far enough tapered barrels. As this function currently serves no purpose I'd hope it gets made into a purely cosmetic effect, rather than one which simply adds dead weight.
Yeah that's the issue. I can make a gun of any caliber and length as long as I make the barrel walls 5mm thick, which looks terrible.

Increase the shell length to move the balance point further back, it sometimes helps heavy gun barrels. And obviously larger mantlets.

Barrels as a whole are kind of broken. Similar to the suspension system atm. Just look at the Panther, in game it has that awful looking stubby barrel. IRL it's barrel is 5.25m long (noteworthy that not all of this length is outside the turret).

I'd say the biggest limitation is just the turret motor. It's pitifully bad with how low its limited, making any sort of long barrel tank just flops because of how quickly the weight exceeds the motor strength.

i don't have much issues with the cannon even in the ww1 era using longer barreled 100+mm guns now i know it's a literal balancing game. the biggest issue currently is indeed the weak motor power that limits traverse speeds, but besides that you are pretty much clueless on the actual balance of what is behind the mantle and whats infront of it, once you get a gun balanced at any caliber by tweaking stuff be it a 50mm or 150mm, even the weak motor power can do what it has to do just fine the moment you get it balanced. if we could get a % offset or some other indication to fix that then people would have much less issues building guns.

the barrel and mantle/base dimensions seemingly not doing anything but add dead weight that helps balancing marginally at best isn't all that helpful either

Yeah and velocity maxing out at 1,000 even if you've got a comically short barrel is stupid. Yet, longer barrels decrease dispersion, which is not necessarily what would happen. Short barrels with quality ammunition can be perfectly accurate, but longer barrels absolutely increase velocity up until you hit the point of diminishing returns but it doesn't just "cap out" at 1,000 m/s.
