If this was Early Access, it would be a decent start. However, it is supposed to be a complete game, and as such, it leaves a lot to be desired.

There are four playable characters, but they are not very different. Minor differences in starting equipment/dice and hit points, but nothing that really sets them apart. Every character can use everything (and the store offers the same selection to all). You use the same skills (block, melee attack, magic attack, ranged attack, loot) no matter which one you play, and all can get the same spells, too. I'm normally not one to complain about art in indie games, but the playable characters also look a lot worse than the enemies - like a resized gif; blurry to a point where it is hard to see what they are supposed to look like.

The spells are the biggest issue, along with the game being 90 % RNG. Two spells pretty much ruin the game's potential: 'Invisible' (which could as well be called 'invincible' because it blocks ALL abilities - magic, melee, ranged, spells) and 'Paralyse' - which stuns and disables all abilities for the stunned character (including non-attacks like Health Potion or Loot). A majority of enemies has one or the other in addition to every availble block and counter spell, so you better get these spells if you want to win any battles. From then on, it's Stunlock: The Game. Ridiculously long battles in which you can't do anything half the time, enemies heal and block whenever you can do something, and the few attacks have laughably low damage. Sure, I may win in the end - but after 83 rounds (and being stunned for 50) against a 20 health enemy, I'm long past 'having fun'.

Your character doesn't level up. You can't upgrade your dice or equipment. The only real decisions you make are: add dice, remove dice. There's never a point where you find/can buy better equipment either. My first run on Easy with Wizard was exactly the same as my last run with Rogue on Hard. Same abilities and spells, same enemies, same dice, same absurdly long stun/'invisibility' duels.

I love the concept of a dicebuilder, but this is not how it should be executed.

There are almost no decisions to make in this game.

1. Roll your initiative die to see who goes first (no decision)
2. Every turn, draw dice from your bag & roll them (no decision, but you have to click anyway).
3. Use the results of your dice rolls (no decisions, but you have to click anyways).
4. Repeat from 2 (no decisions).

Where do the decisions come in? Well, every now and then you come across a way to add a die to your pool, either through a found treasure, or spending money at a store. Whether to add a die and which one is up to you, and whether to remove a die and which one is also up to you. Other than that is is effectively an auto-battler that makes you manually do the rote, choiceless actions.

Quite a fun game travelling around dungeons, getting stuff, and fighting monsters. My only problem so far is you can't save when you want. Aka the new save system is almost as bad as no save at all. Here's hoping a real save system is in progress. The New Save system is at least a save system though so you don't have to do a full game all at once like it was, just not an ideal way to save. There have been quite a few times were I assumed I was saved at a point only to find that I wasn't.

Of note.

I do feel weak all the time. I don't get a sense of being a hero.

Abilities do not always seem useful based on the gameplay loop.

The RNG is unforgiving and its hard to find a good build, I rolled alot of failures making the fights longer than was fun in most cases, and most builds didn't work very well making me lean toward certain items just to survive on easiest difficulty.

I would like to see more variety overall in items and characters but a good start to this game. I would also like to see items be more meaningful and useful than just a die in the dice bag.

So, it is a hard to find gem that has great potential; but has a few quirks to iron out.

It's an okay game but I feel like it could be improved in so many ways the game is extremely punishing if you don't win initiative it literally makes some cards absolutely useless such as drain magic or thieving attack from the enemy this could be fixed by letting the ability if used linger until the opponents turn. The battles can take absolutely forever for the sheer fact that you don't have the option to stock pile your rolls they have to be used immediately or not at all and thus can be outhealed/outdamaged and brought to a standstill for the longest time it also takes a large portion of strategy out of the game since it behooves you to use all your dice unless they have counterspell/spikeshield. I was able to get a ton of rare expensive cards on the rogue, but the fact that there's no way to increase damage throughout your play just makes you feel incredibly weak throughout if there was a way to get an upgrade to damage through gold or battles or items or anything this would be incredibly better. Honestly for the price it's not bad, but I wouldn't say it's good either.

Note: This is a super early review (I just barely survived the second boss with Archer) and I might update it later. I am giving the game a thumbs up to encourage the devs (I hope there are planned future contents!) and push possible fixes/improvements.

What I like:
- very chill and easy to learn. Good as a side-game when you multitask, e.g. watch Youtube.
- dice-rolling mechanics. Do not judge but I am a sucker for dice XD.
- there seems to be plenty of dice to try out. Not sure of the exact number, would like some info if devs could share it.
- accessible price.

What I would like to see (ranked from high priority to low):
- mid-game saving. This is a must! Please add this asap.
- windowed mode with resolution options.
- better fonts for '?' section. the current font is just unreadable.
- toggle of faster animation speed.
- a different sound effect for the melee attack. the current one sounds like 'you missed the attack' to me. I was very confused.

There are currently four different heroes but I am not sure how differently each plays. Overall the game is worth a try if you are looking for a quick run here and there.

I'm marking it as not recommended, but I think that it actually could be alright with some work. This review is more of a "has potential" than a pure negative. Unfortunately, Steam doesn't have that sort of option.

The game is pretty RNG heavy, but I suppose that's what you expect from a dice game. There's some fun to be had here, but the game suffers from balance and stability issues.

The gameplay is pretty simple, though it took me a few battles to really understand what was happening. If I may make a suggestion here: Make the tutorial happen during actual play. Giving it as a bunch of static images with a lot of text isn't all that helpful. Seeing it all happen in action would be much better.

The actual gameplay is thus:

1. You have a pool of dice (the starting pool is determined by class.) You roll multiple dice during your turn. Sometimes you roll 6, sometimes you roll 4, and I don't know really know why that is. You can have a maximum of 30 dice in your pool and a minimum of 16. It's better to have less dice because you don't really want variable results - more on that in a bit.

2. You roll initiative at the start of every battle, and that determines whether you or your opponent go first at the beginning of each combat round for the entire battle. It has a big effect on combat, for better or worse.

3. You can set up a dice loadout to control what sort of things can come up for you in combat, but that's about the only control you have over anything. You have to manually click the results to use them, and I would assume that this is because automatically attacking would potentially be harmful to you (the enemy might have a counterattack active) but ranged attacks automatically fire without your input. It's kinda weird but you get used to it.

Now for the mechanical issues I have with the gameplay:

Dice probably have too many failures in the early game. It makes for very long and uneventful fights when both sides roll nothing (or things that can't be used.) So it's a lot of just sitting around doing nothing. That could definitely be improved.

Speaking of things that can't be used: Lots of dice are situational to the point that they aren't worth using. Since enemy types are random and highly varied, using dice with lots of melee/magic "steal" on them is basically never a good idea. You also can't use any steal type dice if you lose initiative, making them just 'auto failure' dice because they will never give you a usable result for any battle in which you didn't win initiative. Lastly, if the enemy doesn't use the type of attack you roll steal against, you can't do anything with them. These dice are just a straight up liability.

Ranged attacks in the game fire off immediately after you roll them. This means that if you won initiative, the attacks go through before the enemy can roll their defenses. That's pretty good. However, losing initiative gives the enemy this advantage instead, and that means you'll be taking automatic damage any time the enemy rolls a ranged attack. Not so good. So basically initiative has a big effect on combat but you have no real control over it other than choosing a class that has a larger die. That's yet another issue with the initiative system in this game. To add insult to injury, the final boss gets to roll 1-20 for initiative, but the best you can get as a player is 1-12 (some classes only get 1-8!)

Another downside to ranged attacks is that because they fire automatically, if you roll a heal and ranged attack(s) on the final round of combat, the enemy will die to your auto-shots before you're allowed to do anything, and you won't be able to use the heal you rolled. Boo! I rolled it, I should be able to use it.

You can't adjust your dice loadout without committing to it permanently. You can't just collect dice and decide between battles which ones you want to use because there's no way to put dice into a "reserve" or "inactive" state. If there are dice you don't want to use right now, you just have to destroy them permanently. This makes experimentation less viable and a lot less interesting for the player.

It seems like the only strategy worth using is stacking all of the same 2 or 3 types of dice and nothing else. Because the failure rate is so high early on, you want to maximize getting multiples of the same dice type so you can penetrate defenses (or just deal ANY damage at all.) If you try to do something hybrid with your dice build, it's not gonna work because it's too unpredictable to get enough successes (or any successes at all!) of the same type in order to penetrate enemy defenses. Enemies start using dice with no chance of failure on them (especially bosses) at a certain point, and these are often defense dice, so that just reinforces the requirement of stacking similar dice types in your pool.

I ran into a few bugs and quality of life issues:

At one point late in my first run, I opened a treasure chest that had Healing Touch in it. The game allowed me to pick it up infinitely, so my dice pool had several of this strong healing die. However, once my bag was full, I couldn't burn dice anymore. It seemed to consider me as only having the minimum amount of dice (16) instead of a full bag (30). It did actually show numerically that I had 30 dice and wouldn't let me get more dice, but it also wouldn't let me burn any. This happened very close to the end of the game, and created an annoying issue. I'll talk about that later.

Also, when you open the shop, if your bag is full and you try to buy something, it'll tell you that you need to burn dice to make room, but there's no option to do that from the shop menu. Closing the shop to burn dice will make it impossible to go back to the shop until the next time you randomly get one (and the items won't be the same) so that's not great. It would be nice if you could sell items, but you can't do that either.

I beat the game on my very first run which took about an hour. I was writing this review as I was playing, so I was taking lots of breaks to make notes on what I was observing. The bug that gave me all the healing items didn't occur until 2 or so battles before the final boss, so it didn't affect the run too much. In fact, it probably made it harder because the final boss also heals, so it was a long war of attrition to actually roll enough damage to whittle him down.

With some improvements and bug fixes, I think this game could really be decent, but it's just not there yet. In addition, most (if not all) of the art consists of royalty free assets you can find with a google image search. It's not the most immersive thing if you've seen them before, not to mention the fact that they aren't the same art styles so there's not much consistency to the game's look. I can sort of overlook that, but I thought I'd mention it because graphics and art style are important to some people and they might want to know about it.

I received the game for free (won it in a giveaway) and I don't regret playing it for the low, low price of nothing. If I had paid money for it, though, I think I would have been a bit more critical of the experience.

There are no decisions to make in combat which is 99% of the game. I didn't check the reviews due to 'mostly positive' score but that was a mistake.

In combat you roll your dice. Then you HAVE to reroll ALL dice. Then you do the actions that were on the dice. And that's it - there are no decisions to make, no choices, no strategy. A single battle with first enemy took me about 25 minutes due to high enemy blocks and healing and low damage on my part (warrior).

It seems the only choices in the game in total are to: add an item (dice) to your pool and optionally remove a dice from the pool.

It's like an auto-battler but it's not auto - you have to do the clicking...

The game is very short and simple. The problem is that there are balance issues that make the game disgustingly aggravating. Monsters have invisibility and paralyse and when used, you can't hit them. The problem is that some monsters have so much of it that every single round is them hitting you and you doing nothing. Some even have potions so that if you get a rare hit, the immediately heal. You can sit there for hours trying to fight and get nothing done.

Every now and then you can visit the shop. There are only a few useful items and it will require you doing ALT F4 /reload over and over again until you get the item you need.

At the start of each battle is a dice roll to see who goes first. If the monster goes first, you need to ALT F$/reload and try again because most skills only work if you go first.

Had to refund it. "Just" manipulating the dice bag doesn`t do it for me. Might be your game though.
