Any reason not to dual wield?
Hello, I just started playing GB4 last night, had a blast, but the tutorials are kind of ass and I'm still figuring out stuff. One thing in particular I'm curious about is: is there any benefit at all to leave one ranged weapon slot empty? I guess single melee has a different moveset from dual melee, but does having one gun mean you're just shooting less?

There's sadly no benefits as of yet to not dual wielding unless it's a two handed weapon class, which is melee only

Just The cool benefit that's it.

Game really encourages dual wielding so yeah if you're going for the aesthetic, that's about the only reason to go single hand weapon...

Going to old man yell this til' the White Base comes to Earth, to use a thematically appropriate metaphor: the only reason I can think of to not dual-wield is the inevitable headache that comes with trying to Synthesis-juggle certain abilities to your two weapons. Definitely not the same hat that comes with just dumping everything in your inventory into the one part, when you're dual-wielding at least.

Shield Bash is pretty much the only reason, you lose out on string finishers, but at the end of the day that isn't even that big of a deal since cancel combing works just fine to infinite juggle.

Edit: Oh and for ranged options not really, it's just aesthetic.

The bigger problem with that for weapons is how many skills are unique on a per weapon basis and thus are "wasted" materials if you mass dump, since even with other body parts you're going to be making tons of different heads and arms and the like.

Hence 'inevitable headache.' Because imagine the wasted abilities, and you're trying to get certain abilities for the second weapon you're dual wielding, meaning mass-dumping's out entirely on the off-chance you accidentally trash something you want for the second weapon because it was an ability on a weapon synthesized during the mass dump into the first!

S'why the game could really go for an overhaul on the filtering system at the very least. Select specific abilities you want, filter out the rest, mass synthesize the first group with the desired abilities into your weapon/part.
