Early game Item Drop: Rate and Item Drop Quality. Will help, but eventually you really don't need that passive buff and that it does becomes pointless to use.
Why?
You have these bonus's "Break Combo" which increases those things for you. When you have a mobile suit (Gunpla) capable of performing multiple breaks rather early during each phase of the mission.
When you do good in a mission (S) Rank usually you end up with parts.
Pop a Breaker Booster too they usually double your Rewards in terms of parts. Increasing your odds of getting the part you want.
Difficulty also gives out better rewards.
End game I don't run Item Drop: Rate, Item Drop: Quality or Item Drop: Rate, Quality. (Yes there are 3) And that's mainly because I am getting 4 to 5 star parts on average on Newtype Difficulty. Knowing that I am able to get in those Break combos.
Now personally I do find it easier to just buy the part, and use "Plastics" to level them up. As they're very easy to obtain. And expendable. It's nice to buy the thing you instead of farming it. Use up the materials to level it up, and to have a clean slate of Abilities to Mid - Max your part.
IMO all that time it took to farm and not have it drop. You just may have the materials to just buy one and to upgrade it close to max. Then just stock up on more materials for the next big thing you want.
Worst case you buy it and slowly upgrade it over time.
Best case is you farm it get those break combos + higher difficulty + Breaker Booster and you'll get it within 5 attempts.
Farming for a specific part is always RNG.
only thing you need to target farm would be guns if you want a certain fire mode that only drops in newtype mode
But you could also just buy the model kit if you really need it from the store.
