PSA: Mastering EX & OP Skills
Simply put, when you raise a part to its maximum rarity (Rank 6 or five gold stars), any EX or OP skills attached to it get added to your repertoire, whether the part is equipped or not. This means that any mastered EX or OP skill can be equipped regardless of your build.

For example, I love the Vajra Beam Saber EX skill on the Gaia legs. If I raise that part to max rarity, I can take those legs off and use something I like the look of better, and still get to use the Vajra Beam Saber skill. Same thing with any mastered OP skills. Do note that you can't put mastered EX Skills in OP Skill slots, or vice versa. Hope this helps everyone's builds!

EDIT: Testing has shown a few caveats to this system. One, using a Mastered skill without the part it comes from will temporarily replace the equivalent part in your build (i.e. if you use a Mastered skill from the legs, your current legs will be replaced by a wireframe version of the skill's legs while the skill is active).

Two, while this is happening you won't be able to use any inherent skills on your replaced parts until the Mastered skill has run its course. There are also visual bugs currently present that reset any adjustments to your equipped parts (scaling, positioning, rotation, etc) when they are temporarily replaced. These alterations only last until wave transition or mission completion, so there's no risk of having to re-adjust parts manually.

While I find replacing the part to be rather immersion-breaking, it's still an improvement as far as skill access compared to older entries, so I hope they continue to improve on it.

Very excited for that, was confused seeing that we didn't have weapon EXs that you leveled up anymore, and seeing even OPs now be freed up is VERY satisfying. Thanks!

Oh, it applies to OP skills too, that's new, compared to GB3, and quite a nice thing to hear.

This is another improvement over GB3. The game has enough grind in it if you want to minmax, the last thing you want is to have to fill up BARZ UPON BARZ of exp errywhere.

So you will just pull weapons outta thin air?
Ferrick Aug 29, 2024 @ 11:59pm
does this include awakenings like Trans-am, wings of light, burning mode, etc.?

You'll have a virtual/mesh part materialise and use the skill or weapon.

Yes, all EX/OP will be unlocked once the corresponding part is mastered.

Not quite; skills on shield parts can't be mastered for some reason. I don't claim to understand why, maybe it's an oversight.

Probably coz there's no need to. Body/arms/legs/etc are visual defining, but shields can be switched off and added simply as 'stat blocks'.

That being said I hope it is an oversight.

If your parts have any size scaling on them, then using a mastered skill will reset the scaling on the whole mech to 0 for the rest of the level. This is because the part will temporarily be swapped out with a hologram version of the mastered part that the skill comes from. Hopefully an oversight that will be patched.

You also won't be able to use any skills associated with the part that gets swapped out. For instance, if you mastered trans-am and use it, your backpack will disappear for the entire duration of trans-am and you will not be able to use any skills associated with your backpack during that time.

trying to 100% GB3 was hell

IMPORTANT NOTE
While an imported EX or OP skill is active, you will not be able to use ANY other imported skill OR skill associated with the part that skill originates from.
So I strongly recommend that you avoid using things like a GN Field or funnels that you would have lifted from a back unit, unless there's no other skill on that back unit you care to use during the time that skill is active. This could even block off the use of your Burst Action skill.

yeah i tried using a mastered version of g-self's photon shield and it blocked my OP slots, i cannot use my anchor, GN field or my missiles anymore until it wears off. Is this a bug?
