Crossfire 2
Why was i, the protagonist of life, not consulted beforehand?
Already came out -- it's Gundam Senki, or "Mobile Suit Gundam Senki: Battlefield Record U.C. 0081."
And it's freakin' awesome. Right up there with GBU as a serious contender for the best Gundam game of all time.
Even a bit TOO story driven, as I've started to skip dialogues because I can't stand onboxious glasses guy that just won't shut up.
Turns out shooting a bunch of tanks in Zeonic Front isn't nearly as interesting when you can get it done in like, 2 minutes by constantly boosting around at high speed while mashing attack buttons. A lot of the missions were just way too insubstantial for the format.
Also, I'll still take Climax U.C. over Side Stories, in terms of nailing the atmosphere of being in the middle of a huge battle.
Otherwise, yeah. 0081 is definitely one of my favorite Gundam games.
Also, I think you're forgetting that Code Fairy exists? It's weird in that it was released digital-only and episodically, and pretty much being story-mode GBO2 (afaik, I haven't actually played it), but it's a thing.
Yeah, some of the mission design in Side Stories was pretty blah. I definitely wouldn't call that the biggest problem with the game, though, considering it only affected certain missions, whereas the performance ruined *every* mission.
My point was more that what was a D-tier game on PS3 is a lot closer to a B-tier game is you can emulate it at a high framerate. Like, seriously, space combat is nuts -- especially in those missions that just throw a ton of enemies at you. It's definitely worth revisiting, I think.
Still need to try Senki on an emulator. Here's hoping it's not too hard to get the DLC working... I have very fond memories of taking a Gerbera Tetra, using all the highest-tier customization parts I could to massively boost its speed, and just *flying* across the maps, annihilating everything.
And, lol, yeah, totally forgot about Code Fairy. Speaking of D-tier games.....
Seems like it would be a good time for such a thing.
I'm reminded of how there were basically no samurai games at all for years and years because publishers just assumed there was no market for them... and then Ghost of Tsushima came out. Likewise, we haven't seen many mech games in the past decade and change, and then came Armored Core....
Though at this point it's been so long since the last ACE game they could probably populate an entire new game solely with characters/mechs released since ACE:R (that was the last one, right? I'm not gonna look it up).
Ghiren's Greed Menace of Axis V is 15 years and we are never getting another one.
I really want those, I love being able to collect warships and MS and MAs and use them all
Otherwise, I wouldn't mind have another Mobile Suit Gundam Online personally.
