DELTARUNE

DELTARUNE

A WTH moment I experienced when downloading the Steam version of Deltarune
(Go straight to the bolded part to skip background info.)

So... back when I had recently finished Undertale on my Switch, I wanted to play Deltarune, but NOT on my Switch. Why? Because I was just refusing to play any digital games on it at the time, for... whatever reason. I don't think I even remember.

But regardless, because of this, I wanted to play this game on my laptop instead. I went to the official download site, where I was given the option of Itch.io or Steam. I didn't have a Steam account, so I just took the easier route and downloaded the Itch.io version. I played the normal route and completed a playthrough of each Chapter where I basically did everything important. Then I just... left the game behind, in my computer files.

A while later, I had made a Steam account to buy and play a completely different game. Some time after that, I decided to do another Deltarune playthrough after downloading it on the Steam version. It was more convenient, after all, right? I had also just missed Deltarune in general, so it was perfect. I downloaded it... booted it up... and my Itch.io files were somehow there. Just... hanging, fully completed, in the Steam version.

I have no idea how Toby or Valve even made this happen. Maybe it's a simple procedure of convenience and I'm dumb for not knowing its possible, but I was COMPLETELY taken aback when I realised that these versions of the game somehow had the same data. Out of curiousity, if someone actually wanted to explain this in a way that a stupid child could understand, I would appreciate it a lot!

BTW I'm editing this just to point out that immediately after finding this revelation, I just replayed both chapters fully regardless, because this game is... pretty cool B)

But magic works too ;-)

Ah. Idk... I just never considered Itch.io would be behind it for some reason lol. It would make sense tho.

Very, very interesting. Magic would be cool, but thanks for the genuine answer!

Also marking this as the answer in case anyone else is curious (still don't know if this is common knowledge. Probably not tho.)
