There’s a website called SteamDB where you can see all the updates that have been made to a store page. It doesn’t look like the release date has been changed manually, so it most likely is just a glitch on Steam’s part with the release date originally being a text entry rather than a value.

Though, a bit ironically there’s been a trend on the subreddit for the past day or so where people have been making memes of fake future story events, as if the game were already released.

On my end it says the release date is December 31st, 1969. I gotta say, I'm feeling pretty hyped.

I think either date can show up as an error. In fact some devices are showing the date as Jan 1st 1970.

It wasn't changed to 1969, it just displays 1969 instead of 1970 depending on the timezone you are in, it's just a bug.
