What is NEO?

So something that just occurred to me is that it’s never really explained what NEO actually is. Originally in Undertale I just kinda assumed it was just a cool name Alphys came up with, but with Spamton NEO being a thing, it seems like it might actually be an acronym for something important similar to LV and EXP

I presume it’s just taking on the actual meaning of the prefix which means “new” or “revived form of”. It was a new body that Mettaton wanted for themselves. Spamton wanted the same thing, a new body to reflect his ambitions and give him the power he desired.

The idea of NEO referring to a new/revived version of someone/something does make some sense given who gets it. Though then I guess the question is why Spamton thought he could reach [Heaven] (also what is [Heaven] is another good question) with NEO in combination with the soul that Kris has. Swatch says that the machine contained “hope” from a lightner which may have something to do with it

I had this thought too only in relation to Jevil's voice line when he drops the massive scythe in his final Chaos attack: "The true and NEO Chaos". So it's a new Chaos, a new age of Chaos, a new, true Chaos? What really drives it home for me is both Jevil and Spamton have the connection of being contacted by someone who drove them made, arguably the knight. It feels like there should be a deeper meaning behind NEO.

I feel like its impossible to tell right now with the information we have, even across 2 chapters and 2 games (Undertale included)
