Deltarune is a power struggle between Chara / The Player and Frisk and Chara is now deeply weakened. Gaster is manipulating certain events to defeat Chara and minions like Jevil and Spamton and others are the tools of Gaster's will.
There are trails that make character's like Jevil and Spamton special, especially to someone like Gaster. Gaster manipulated Jevil by making him aware of the world and the reality he lived on, the madness made him a dangerous foe, and unlike other foes of chapter 1, Jevil was made powerful and was Determined to kill the party, there was no way to spare him outside of the use of hypnosis to tire him out.
Spamton on the other hand was Determined to be a big shot and desperate enough to follow someone as shady as Gaster, I believe that in order to be contacted by Gastler there is a need for a certain degree of madness, curiosity or desperation in the individual but most importantly DETERMINATION.
This is why Gastler only appears to the player after entering and re-entering certain rooms, this is both madness but also a display of determination to some extent.
I believe that Kris is the amalgamation of Chara, Frisk and the Player. After the events of Undertale, Chara lived as Kris for years but somehow became too weak to control Frisk soul and Chapter 1 is the return of both Frisk and the Player, in this state Chara is very limited and can only do as he pleases after removing Frisk soul but this results in a near death experience every time, reason why Kris movements are so awkward and dull.
I believe that Gaster might either be the cause or knows why Chara has grown so weak and perhaps he is afraid of his creation. Characters like Jevil and Spamton used to be good according to the people who knew them but turned dark, just like how Chara went from a child to a dark demigod.
Jevil and Spamton purpose is to defeat the player and Spamton was awfully close in any route he is fought. Kris shows fear or helplessness whenever Spamton is fought. Without either friends or a controlled Noelle, Kris most likely would had perished and lost Frisk's soul, so Gaster is definitively on the correct route.
What is interesting about Chara and Gaster is that both are really good at manipulation. Both of them use the player's curiosity against them, Chara coercing the player into the evil routes by just allowing the player to explore while Gaster seeds the idea that the player should look for a challenge even when it has been totally unnecessary.
this explanation is a good point to consider.
Or maybe, it could be that Spamton being desperate was simply a coincidence and Gaster was looking for someone who was willing to lend an ear?
There could be another explanation too, both Jevil and Spamton could have been the only ones that Gaster could come into contact with.
That's.. actually a rather tangible theory, yea. Given the way [Hyperlink Blocked] is used in the few instances he says that, it just might sound like he's refering to it. Either Determination or LOVE, which is a bit more questionable, and only based on the line about "You and Noelle making [Hyperlink Blocked]". Just would make sense, given all the murder you have to do, to even get there.
But it is most likely Determination if anything. It fits just too well with majority of the lines.
"[...]BUT WE KNOW WHAT WE WANT, DON'T WE!? W1LD PR1ZES, HOTSINGLE, 100 CUSTOMER, AND MOST OF ALL... [Hyperlink Blocked]" - If Spamton is speaking directly to Kris, then it would makee sense that the both of them would want Determination especially bad. Spamton wants to call his own deals and shots, and Kris wants to be independent from the Player, be it a good or bad thing.
"[...]NOW KRIS. DON'T BE GREEDY. HAND OVER. THE DISK.
THEN WE WILL TRANSFER.
MY [[Hyperlink Blocked]]." - If he was given some Determination to get him "hooked" and just enough of it to gain some power, powering the body of NEO with that energy would be very beneficial.
"KRIS THAT [Little Nipper] IS OUR [One-way Ticket] TO MAKE YOU [Big]. MAKE ME [Big].
BEFORE YOU KNOW IT WE WILL BE TAKING [ A Ride around Town on Our Specil Cungadero]
VACATIONING IN [Burning acid] WHILE YOU SOAK IN THE [Hyperlink Blocked]." - While acid baths don't sound too good for your skin, soaking in Determination does sound good. That is, if you can really quantify such amounts of it, and it's not just Spamton looking through materialistic eyes.
Still tho, "Being BIG" seems to be in referance to possessing Determination. He NEEDS Kris, to be BIG. He NEEDs the Soul in them, filled with juicy Determination.
However, I don't think it being censored, is due to us owning the Soul in mention. It seems to me more the corruption blocks that word out, as it already does to make him sound incomprehensible.
This feels like this has happened before Kris and Susie even enter the Cyber World since so much happened with Spamton that it's impossible for so much to happen in such short amount of time. Remember, the internet had only recently gone out in the real world's town, if Spamton is a form of Adware/Virus operating from a computer in the Library, it wouldn't be able to spread Ads anywhere at the present time, so his successes had to have been before that time.
One additional thing regarding Spamton ranting about being [BIG], it could mean being able to see things from a Lightener's perspective. All the Darkener's perspectives are tied to small inanimate objects within the room they're present in. Being [BIG] could be both literal and figurative in terms of being on par with a Lightener.
Still, I do think the knight has something to do with it. When he is about to talk about the knight, he immediately says: "No, I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to --" not with his uppercase crazy speech, but his normal speech when he says ",,,can anyone hear me? Help"
