The story is set to be 8 years after the current story (After Otto's ending - Chapter 27). It's set to be after the Honkai Crisis, so basically you will be facing none honkai related new enemies and new plots. Although most enemies are just re-skinned and some characters are re-used from the main story but act as a different person.
Basically you can view it as a separate sequel and doesn't really require otaku level lore knowledge to enjoy. But since you haven't finished Chapter 27, some of the story might not be connected for you and might make no sense until you catch up with the main story (including Visual Novels + Manga).
Also, there's extra story for APHO in the official Manga Station[manga.honkaiimpact3.com].
Ingredient farming wise, it's advisable to start them early to get those extra ingredients rewards. Especially both APHO is being generous on the Honkai Cubes that you require to upgrade your weapons.
Because of the weekly limit, it's still advisable to do them early due the the requirement to level up (grind) separate valkyries. If you value the story, just do the Open World Tasks and Challenge for the rewards and ignore the story part until you are ready to play them. Might have to do some minimum to unlock the features but it's worth it. After that just grind their level while you do the tasks and when you are ready for the story, it will be a piece of cake with your high level characters.
---
Since you are only on Chapter 12, you probably might not even finished Samsara (Story1[manga.honkaiimpact3.com], Story 2[manga.honkaiimpact3.com]) and Schicksal HQ (Story[manga.honkaiimpact3.com]) yet. Both of those require external story at the Manga Station to understand as well. And since you can only open one OW at anytime each week, it's best to finish them first.
Is this good or should i look up for an another site?
If you are interested in a good (long) story, my suggestion is to start with the Visual Novels[hoyostans.be] (Web Based Browser Games).
There's a ton of Manga to read at the official Manga Station[manga.honkaiimpact3.com] as well.
And a short anime season 戦乙女の食卓 ~Cooking with Valkyrie~ at their Official YouTube Channel. (This one is none related to the main story, but is related to some of the recurring events)
My personal favorite is the story about our real protagonist, the Captain. Which only appear as event stories in game. So they are not accessible to new players and the repeating events are pretty random in order. So it's best to watch them elsewhere. You can get almost the full Captainverse story archive here[hoyostans.be].
The Captain started his journey using the mind mapping technology to project his mind into a parallel world and time-line, that allows him to do time travel as well. It's almost exactly like the theory in Steins Gate. As you can see in the current event, he has mapped himself into the conscious of Conan, the book author of Sherlock Holmes. And he met Rita there under the disguise of Irene Adler (also a character in Sherlock Holmes). The "Rita" he met has a contract with Loki the god (aka Demon in the event) that allows her to do mind mapping travel as well, that's why she is able to map into our Rita's body at the end of that event.
