"Personal items"
Do they do anything? I haven't noticed any particular effect, and I completed an entire playthrough with a stack of them in my inventory. Should I just be selling them like the useless "magic materials"?

I played the Chinese version and am not completely sure what that refers to... But I'm guessing it's one of the two: the drops from the back alley can be gifted to the specific person who lost them, and the presents received from friendship status can be regifted as well

Sometimes they can be gifted, sometimes they can't. But yeah, it's largely stuff people give you as friendship gifts, or stuff you find during ? encounters while exploring.

The dark alley drops are supposed to be lost items that can only be gifted to their original owners. If you are unsure who that is, give the thing to the silver-haired scholar kid, he'll know who it belongs to.

Yeah, I figured that out. Those are labelled "lost and found" items or some such. This is more like the fossil, or the slave chain, or other stuff you find in the forest.

Ahh, those. Those are giftable right? The slave chain is liked by RenassaLebsa (sorry I don't do names) (and probably disliked by everyone else). The fossil is liked by the principal (Claude?).

Yeah I've found some of the personal items are peoples "favorite gifts" or whatever, the ones that show up in their profile card.
