The mom is also not dead, she just is busy being goddess and can't really spend time with you, but you two are sometimes still in contact.
But father still there and he is fairly human. No reason not to sweet home Alabama :)
Its not unheard of in these type of rising sim games to have the father/organizer character also get some fun or even own stats.
Its just cultural differences, in our culture its more common to desire another parent to help raise the child with maybe a few years grace period in literature.
