Just to clarify for everyone asking the same question.. you gain HP by as much as you get ahead in levels; then it resets if you restart camapgin.
If you can only get to so far in early stage.. you can restart the run and play again, but with more upgraded units, which will help you get further in practice.
So even if you didn't get ahead in early stages, once you unlock upgrades for the units you have, you will be able to progress more..
Nevertheless, we are still open for feedback on this matter.
Feels like the expense curve is way too high.

in the next update we'll make the free play give you some HP but a little, so when you play campaign and have a little left HP to unlock unit you can gain it from free play before replay the campaign.
