The class and weapon selection for dragon and eldritch lord are just so dumb now.
For the past 2 years I played this game without an isue. I could play hours without a single crash even with multiple mods enabled.
But yesterday my game crashed after like 30 min (without any mods, sended report) also my multicore pc was running like crazy. So maybe sth is wrong with optimalization, idk. It was unpleasant experience..Will see what I can do on my side, tho it's weird..

I was surprised and pleased that all of my mods seem to work correctly from day one.

We have to look at the bigger picture when evaluating the price of Age of Wonders 4: Giants DLC at €25. Let's break it down with some economic reasoning:

1. Steam's Cut (30%)

Valve takes 30% of each sale, leaving Triumph/Paradox with €17.50 per copy.

2. Value-Added Tax (VAT)

The EU typically applies 20–25% VAT depending on the country. Assuming 21% (Netherlands rate):

The base price before VAT is €20.66.

Steam's 30% cut is taken from this: €20.66 × 0.7 = €14.46.

This means that after taxes and Steam's share, Triumph/Paradox gets around €14.50 per copy.

3. Development & Business Costs

Labor Costs: Triumph (Dutch) and Paradox (Swedish) operate in high-wage countries. Game developers, artists, and QA testers in Europe command significant salaries. The average European game developer earns around €50,000–€70,000 per year, which translates into high fixed costs.

Game Development Time: If the DLC took 6–12 months with a dedicated team of, say, 15–30 developers, that's a substantial investment in salaries alone.

Marketing & Localization: A global release means paying for translations, advertisements, and promotional materials.

Support & Patching: Post-launch updates and community support also require funding.

4. Market Comparison

AAA Game Prices: Full AAA games cost €60–€80 in 2024. If this DLC adds substantial content, €25 isn't out of line.

Previous Paradox DLCs: Paradox is known for premium-priced expansions (Crusader Kings III, Europa Universalis IV). Their pricing strategy has always targeted engaged players rather than mass-market impulse buyers.

Indie vs. AAA: Compared to indie expansions at €10–€15, this is higher—but for a high-budget, strategy-focused expansion, it's still in line with expectations.

Conclusion

While €25 might feel expensive in a vacuum, considering Steam's cut, VAT, and European labor costs, Triumph and Paradox likely only see about €14–15 per sale. If the DLC adds meaningful content, the price isn't out of line with modern gaming economics.

That said, players will always debate value. If the DLC offers only minor additions, the price might feel steep. But if it significantly expands gameplay, then it's a reasonable price in today’s gaming market.
It should be noted that the claim that "games are more expensive to make these days" is a myth. Developers and publishers choose to, for example, contract expensive high-profile voice actors or pursue an unhealthy focus on graphics.

The customers are incapable of making these choices for them.

That said, I enjoy the Giant Kings DLC, it's fun. But the modern video game industry has major issues... and I also received this expansion pass as a gift; I would never buy it myself.

Valve takes a maximum of 30%, but I guess it's lower for Age of Wonders 4.
If they sold for more than 10M$ (including all editions and DLC) which is not unlikely, it's down to 25%, I doubt they would have sold for more than 50M$, but that would reduce the steam cut by another 5%.

I had dragonteeth site spawning underground (which should have been great as using a dragon orientated build) however it only had links to 2 usable provinces and to 1 bedrock.
So no use. I guess map generator underground and sites not working together.
8 new achievements oh COME ON are we seriously putting this as a feature.. ugh.
And Portuguese language, when??? :UnhappyMask:
When fix desync? Pizdec.

Crazy how cheap people can be, this luxury item worthy of endless replayability is the same price as 4 bags of chips here in the US, like get a grip and stop minimizing the worth of those who work on games

I remember when bag of chips cost $1 so... In 5 years your comment will be "how cheap people can be, this item is the same price as 2 bags of chips here in the US"... etc

I simply refuse to get used to this intentional inflation game everyone is playing. Not blaming the devs, just saying globally, things are getting more expensive without any tangible reason for it and I opted in to save my money and if it's shaving off $5 at a time, so be it.

And if you feel like you're rich and can afford 4 more bags of chips, buy me this DLC as a gift, oh wealthy one.

Buy the season pass and then it works out to what... ~15 Euro? (just depends just how much you truly hate/don't want the other content for some reason I guess -- haters just gotta pay more apparently)

Breaking news: not everyone likes everything and there are shades of grey between loving and hating something, for example not being interested in it.

Many people of my age are steeped in classic fantasy works, - e.g. Tolkien's. I don't really care for the Oathswork as it's not classic fantasy. Just skipping that dlc makes the expansion pass a waste of money.

I agree. I always find the mix of themes and cultures like that bit weird. Also the moving away from lore and set races makes it all very odd and depthless story and lore.

I played the entire week without any issues until March 31. As soon as I updated to the new expansion, I started experiencing this exact problem.

Whenever I approach certain parts of the map, the game becomes extremely slow, regardless of whether the quality is set to ultra or low.

I have a GTX 3050, an Intel Core i5, and 8GB of RAM. Everything was fine until the update—it's really unstable now.
