Known Issues & Bug Reporting - Read this first
Hi there!

We assume you are on this sub-forum because you encountered an issue; and want report it or check if others are experiencing a similar issue.

Please read through this post before reporting your issue.

Also make sure your system meets the minimum specs as defined at the bottom of the store page

Known Issues
Be aware that we are working on resolving these known issues properly, this section is just to provide information and work-arounds for the more major known issues.

o Graphics Driver Crashes
- If you are experiencing graphics driver crashes or seemingly random crashes; please make sure you have the Graphics>Driver Workaround setting ENABLED.

o Performance/GPU heating/crashes on rendering heavy scenes
- In case of these issues, we recommend trying to toggle/lower specific settings:
  • Settings > Graphics > Vsync
  • Settings > Graphics > Shadow Quality
  • Settings > Graphics > Texture Quality
  • Settings > Graphics > Quality Mode
(Above settings are examples of the most common offenders, other settings might need to be lowered)

o Cannot Select Correct Monitor/Graphics Card in settings
- Please refer to this post on how to opt into the hotfix branch; where you can change these settings.

o Crashes on startup before being able to get to the Settings
- For any crashes on startup it would be worth trying to change the settings file directly at Documents\Paradox Interactive\Age of Wonders 4\Config\PlatformSettings0.cfg using a text editor.

- Make sure the correct GPU is selected; if not and the game does not adhere to your PC settings, then in the settings file:
  • Remove Video.DisplayAdapterID
  • Set Video.DisplayAdapterName to your GPU name, which be found in your Device Manager under Display Adapters (example: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060)

- If you suspect the crash is a driver crash, also change:
  • Video.DriverWorkaround to true

- If it still crashes, lower the above mentioned settings directly like this:
  • Set Video.VSyncRate to 0
  • Set GraphicsOptions.ShadowQuality to 0
  • Set GraphicsOptions.TextureQuality 0
  • Set GraphicsOptions.QualityMode to 0
(These are examples)

o Graphical Corruptions
- If you are experiencing broken textures or blank interfaces AND you have the Graphics>Driver Workaround setting enabled; then it is likely better to make sure it is DISABLED (unless it resolved a crash for you).

o Crashes/PC reboot with XMP profile enabled for DDR5 RAM
- When experiencing these issues, it is best to disable the XMP profile for now.

o Game sizing issues when taskbar is not set to the bottom of the screen
- Pressing Alt-Enter twice after each bootup should resolve the issue.

o "Opponents are Moving" endlessly
- This means the AI is stuck, which unfortunately can be quite a specific situation. It is best to always report these issues as defined below and include a save game, so we can fix them. To potentially circumvent them; reload an earlier save and perform completely different actions, that MIGHT prevent the issue from happening.

o Session going out of sync or getting stuck in Multiplayer
- An Out of sync means that the game state is different for one player than another; a reload is then required to make sure all players are synced up again. Generally you should be able to continue after a reload. If not, try reverting the round by going to Active Sessions > Settings > Revert.

It might also be worth checking if the hotfix branch fixes your issue

Bug Reporting
If the issue you want to report is not in the above list, then please first check if you can quickly find another report with a similar issue here in the Bug Report sub-forum or at the pdx forums[forum.paradoxplaza.com]. Post in the thread to provide additional information if you find your issue.

If your issue has seemingly not been reported yet, please make a new post on either sub-forum with as much information as possible (PDX forums allows you to add a zipped save file which really helps). Especially any steps to reproduce are appreciated!
