Why can't we recruit certain classes like Death Knight and Spellblade?
I never see them as options to recruit, why is that?

They are there in the hero pool, you are either on an old game version, pre-tiger, or extremely (un)lucky.
Can confirm. I recruited a few rather recently. The Spellblade I got for free radically out-performed expectations and made me revise my opinion of them... That hasn't quite happened with Death Knight unfortunately. <<

They do come up, however they never come up when you're hoping to get one. Which is how hero recruitment works with all classes: you never get what you're looking for. I believe the game has been carefully tuned to ensure that.

I legitimately do not see how they'd be able to do that- this phenomenon of "RNG-based thing never shows up as soon as you're explicitly looking for it" has been well documented across the whole of the gaming scene, anyway. It is not special to AoW4, it just happens.

How is, um, quantum computers. I think it's called the "watched pot effect".

Surely you appreciate how game-breaking it would be if the devs made a patch that made it easier to recruit the classes you want, just because some people would think that would be fun (yuck). (I mean, I kind of like the idea of working with what RNG gives you rather than always getting to pick what you've liked before, but the RNG system right now does seem pretty restrictive).
Shuffle feature is a thing, probably unlucky. Or you could be playing an old version.

While I actually like the RNG aspect of it - I do think it would be nice if there was some way to have some influence on what in-race heroes spawn.

(Almost) all of the free heroes from things like vassal integration are going to be other non-player race anyways.

The pool of available recruitable heroes appears to be fixed per faction (try starting multiple games and looking at what heroes you can recruit -- it will always be the same classes), and since you only have four available (2 initially, +2 when you rotate) there will always be two hero types you can't get from your own faction.

This too. I have a game on turn 86 ATM with 11 heroes in the recruitment pool. Only two of them are of my faction's race.

...I can't read the tone of this for ♥♥♥♥ so I'm just gonna note that patch would be... uh, helpful, I suppose, still would leave no room to make our own skillsets so that kinda limits how good it could be but. still a positive.

... I think you mean three? Mage, Spellblade, Ritualist, Ranger, Defender, Death Knight, Warrior.

Yeah, guess so. I think I was forgetting the existence of rangers.
I misunderstood earlier but if the pool of recruitable heroes are presently "fixed by faction" it would be nice to get clear evidence of this. If there are ways to modify this pool of recruitable heroes it would be good to know. If this set pool is pure RNG then... Seems to be a pretty obvious room to improve upon.

I blame dragons.
Nooo! Not the dragons! They're innocent :<
