"I Want To Break Free" achievement

Hello reader,

How are you meant to get this achievement? Becoming a vassal results in the game ending. Is there a particular story map that starts with you as a vassal or something?

I don't think the game ends when you're a vassal unless you play a 1 vs 1 map.

You need to become a vassal to someone who doesnt win then. So there need to be at least 3 players. You, your future overlord and someone overlord isnt allied to if you enable allied victory

I've tried it even in a 7 player free-for-all, and story mission. Getting vassalized resulted in the game ending. :l It even goes to the defeat screen with the text along the lines of "Your vassals and realm have fallen into anarchy with you stepping down as leader"

Never saw that. Is allied victory enabled or disabled in your game?

Are you sure you arent surrendering the game?

The game does not end when playing as a vassal.

You can also un-vassalize from your leader.

your problem is likely it being a story mission try it on a custom map a particularly good one is the map where the brothers are fighting over the ruined kingdom
