Ashes of Empire or Eldritch Realms?

I am thinking of buying one of these in the sale (I have it on Epic). Which of these gives most value for money? I am into Lovecraft lore but it seems you get more new items in Ashes?

Eldritch Realms will provide more value for your money imo. Reaver culture from Empires & Ashes is nice and all, but they're just overall not amazing and fall off a bit late-game.
Whereas with Eldritch Realms, you get a new map layer which is amazing, a new eldritch ruler type, and have two new forms. One of them provides an amazing trait that makes enemies have a chance to fumble.

As someone who doesn't have either, I was gonna say "neither of them look good even on sale" but after reading all of the everything actually in them, let's see:

E&A has a new culture, a new form, four new tomes, a new victory condition, and a new wonder and infestation.

ER has a new ruler type, TWO new forms, beetle mounts, The Toll Of Seasons(avoid), 3 new tomes, and some new choices to make for your realms.

Why yes, I did just not even bother counting the Umbral Abyss, because I've heard it's an inhospitable waste of map space. Toll of Seasons is honestly a mark against ER with what I've heard.

That new ruler type is the majority of ER's points, I'm gonna be honest...

Some good pros and cons. In the end I will probably own all since I have always liked Triumph and played everything they made.

It will be a toss up between these two then :).

If you are interedted in the story realms, empire and ashes is the 1st Story expansion, eldritch the 2nd.

They arent really connected to each other but chronological that would be the order.

I've been trying to make a Mystic faction since it's faction was reworked, but Reaver's have been one of my most played factions since their release. Albeit, Magelocks only really work decently since being patched.

I haven't explored Eldritch rulers much. I'm still exploring Wizard Kings since the hero rework.

I know some were critical but since I didn't play it that much before the rework I really like this new path. It gives more purpose.

I hope they do a few more seasons too. AOW3 had too little DLC :).

I may be alone in this but I think the Pantheon concept seems like a great way to flesh out the Eldrtich DLC more. Doesn't have to be as extreme as Azathoth but minor Deities.

ER, Ashen Empire is my least favorite of the DLCs.

Make sure to get every DLC with a ruler type, cause the base game only has 2. So that makes Dragon Dawn and ER mandatory.

Getting S1 on a sale would have been a better idea overall, but yeah DD and ER are essential.

Seems the balance is tipped to ER then :). Luckily the epic sale is to 9th. Getting a bit more stressed about the Steam sale now haha.

Ashes of Empire is good tho would pick up eventually the tomes and units are really great for that theme specific build - ( Also some really tough enemy units) + seals victory is kinda fun.

eldritch realms has a lot more content so would consider it better value tho.

Yes eventually I will get them all, plus the upcoming DLC.

Eldritch Realms gives a new ruler and a new layer to play with.
Ashes of Empire give an new culture and a boring king of the hills type victory(seals) that i never use.

You get more for your money from Eldritch Realms.
I would suggest just getting the season passes but if you only can afford one.
Eldritch Realms without a doubt.

I really enjoy the Reaver faction but would still recommend Eldritch Realms over it if I had to choose. There is just much more game altering content there.
