*sigh*
Technically it is just one army, led by a hero, which besieges a city. The others are "support armies" and you can surround the city with as many armies as the outer ring of the city area allows you to occupy. After that it is always the usual up to three armies for battle with the armies being chosen are per default those with the strongest strategic power value.
Siege time is not reduced by number of armies, but by number and type of siege projects.
Default is 10 city defense equalse one turn of siege, if you are not building any siege projects at all.
What if your units have siege beaker perk, surely main army would further reduce the time, but will the additional 2 support armies also with siege breaker perks further reduce it?
No. Again: technically it is just one army which besieges the city. The others are only accounted for the battle. Not for the siege itself. I remember faintly the Siegebreaker book a hero can use and the skill to equip, which allows the army to break defenses during the battle. I will check later again, but from what I remember it was only for breaking pallisades and such DURING a battle. Not for the siege itself.
So it maxes out at 3 vs 3 armies (or 18 vs 18 units). You can never pull more than that into a single fight.
