Building bridges in the underground
So I decided to make an underground city for the first time because there was an underground passage close to my throne city, and when I went down there the terrain was very promising. A nice ring of lava to protect from outside incursions, a large body of water with fish and oysters to make up for the lack of good farm ground and even an ancient wonder.

There was just one big problem, a river that cut through most of the usable terrain, no wider than one hex for most of it's length. I thought when I unlocked road building I'd be able to simply connect one side to the other but alas, I have to embark and disembark any time I'd want to reach the rest of my domain.

As it stands now I'll probably end up making teleporters on either side once I've unlocked that ability but that's going to take a long time and seems like an excessive amount of effort to shave off one turn of water travel. I really think players should be able to build bridges over water, at the very least while they're in the underground.

No bridges, however if you get the spell "Earth Shatter" you can use it on some of the passageways to allow annexing into other nearby caverns.

Oh that's a relief, I didn't think the terrain would actually change if I started annexing. Guess there's still hope for my underground city yet.

It always builds bridges on annexation which totally ruins rivers

But those underground lakes don't actually count as rivers for the purposes of improving farm yield do they? So I guess that's mostly an aesthetics problem.

Undergrounds can have farms on mushrooms. There's a spell or trait for it too I think.

Water can be improved underground? I’ve started underground for the last ten games and have yet to see it, though I usually get way more lava than water.

You really want Underground Adaptation for an underground city though unless there are lots of bonus materials nearby, otherwise it will take too much time/money to make it efficient.

Well there are "rivers" that are thin slivers in the middle of a province. And there are the "waterways" and "lavaways" in the underground. Waterways/Lavaways you can not do anything with. I 'assumed' your were discussing those. They also have a bug (that was being worked on so not sure if fixed yet) where some province specialty builds will not work if you try to place them in a province that are beside them.

But like I said, you can also use the "Earth Shatter" spell on the normal passages to allow annexing them to get a connection to other chambers if within reach.

edited - I never saw that photo above with bridges created over connecting provinces. Never been able to do that yet. Thanks for posting that Butcher
