Or maybe it's just alternatives are way too weak: "Demon Step": teleport with 10 damage; "Frostfire Detonation": 30 damage, etc.
Summoned elemental deals ~30 damage per turn while blocking archers, absorbing damage, even maybe immobilizing targets, etc.
Game gets much easier when I can get to any summoning at level 5.
Then again, I don't want this to be one of those games where everything that's OP or fun gets nerfed in the name of "balance"...
Might still be worth picking just to get a few more HP on the field, but not as OP as they are now.
I agree, I might still take the summon most of the time even if it's just a Tier 1 unit. A Tier 1 could withstand an attack turn from 2 units or maybe even 3 and they may get in some damage. I tested the summon build and with couple of damage dealers behind, the enemy often couldn't do damage to me.
Yeah... or three extra bodies... which are skeletons and zombies getting all your race buffs and enchantments
Or finding that staff which generates an extra racial zombie each turn.... And then summon three undead on top
