Multiplayer DLC Question?

Does the dlc affect who you can play with in multiplayer?

Say I have the base game plus first expansion season, but then let's say my friend has only the base game. Would we be able to play together in multiplayer? Especially if I'm using a dlc culture that my friend wouldn't have, such as Reaver, or Dragonlord Ruler.

Just wondering, and thanks yet again for any responses.

i dont think so as long its not the DLC maps maybe the only thing that effects if they dont own the DLC is that they cant play that colture you are playing that about it

You can play with people who don't have the DLC. You will have access to whatever DLCs the host uses, so if the host has all the DLC, and their friend just has the base game, their friend will have access to all the DLC content in that session.

I don't recall offhand if it will let them create DLC factions, but I know for sure it lets them pick DLC tomes and interact with DLC mechanics (umbral abyss, etc)

Dlc does not restrict who can play with you. Only the dlc the host owns is active in MP and everyone in the match will be able to use the dlc even if they don't own it iirc. If the host does not own any dlc the other players will not be able to use any dlc stuff even if they own it.

I think they can make dlc factions if they do so in the Session. Though, havent been able to test it yet.

So in this case if I wished to play as a Reaver Faction or an Eldritch Sovereign but my friend were to own neither of these, then I should host? They would then gain temporary access to these if I understand correctly.

But if they hosted while owning only the base game I would be limited by their content?


Sorry if I'm being annoying, trying to understand what I would need to get a friend (during the winter sale) so that we could play in the same session.

Yes. If you want to play with dlc stuff that your friend doesn't have, you would have to host.

My brother own all dlc, I own no dlc. When he is host I am able to use all his dlc for free

How do I disable Human players from taking over AI?
Also is there a way to stop dragging other players into manual combat when they aren't involved.

Yes, you get access to his dlcs for this one mp game. (You should even be able to make stuff like a dragonlord if you create a faction in the lobby)

AI overtake can be disabled in advanced options.

Manual battle will drag all into the battlemap. Only way not having to watch it is to play asynchrone. Which essentially is, leaving the game when its not your turn.

you can turn that all off under combat settings when you are setting up the game.

Figured it out when I slowed down to read better. Thanks for the tips. Made my multiplayer game with my 2 friends much more bearable.
