Wishlist for a season pass 2 or 3
Felt like discussing wished for additions for future season pass 2 or 3 expansions (if we get any). My biggest gripe at the moment is that shadow affinity is wholly under-represented in many aspects; primarily cultures and tome variety. I hope at least one future expansion would focus on this. Things I'd love to see for this would be:

1) A scoundrel/outlaw/bandit themed culture (1 dark 1 chaos perhaps?) drawing some inspiration from rogue in AoW3. We have the tyrannical, order-focused side of dark so it'd be great to see the opposite end of the spectrum. Rogue-esque stuff is pretty lacking as it is; would love to see some rogues, assassins, spies, shadowy creatures and the like. Considering the unique mechanics the last two cultures have, perhaps such a culture could have a lightweight infiltration/espionage mechanic as well (or more ways to utilise such a system if it gets added for every culture).

As mentioned above, I feel that the Dark culture's tyrannical theming suits order affinity and would make more sense thematically to be 1 order 1 shadow instead of 2 shadow, but maybe this wouldn't make as much sense mechanically. It would, however, free up space for a replacement double shadow affinity culture which sorta leads me on to number 2.

2) A cult-like culture that draws upon a more traditional dark mage and/or necromancer theming. While this could be 1 dark 1 astral affinity I think it'd make more sense as a 2 shadow affinity culture. Could have some mechanics based around sacrificing their population for rituals and other benefits, among other dark/evil cult-oriented mechanics.

3) More tomes fulfilling the 'shadow' aspect of 'shadow' affinity. The existing tomes are heavily focused on necromancy and cold; the only 'true' shadow spell is Summon Living Fog. Would love to see more tomes that cater toward this and fit the aforementioned kinds of cultures.

4) An insectoid form and/or some insect themed tomes, summons and neutral units would be great. Would be a cool throwback if this could allow creating empires akin to the Shadow Demons from AoW2:SM! This is assuming the Eldritch Realms DLC won't already add this sort of thing... I've seen some convincing speculation regarding this.

5) A double chaos culture that is focused around primitive and expendable mobs. While traits and tomes cater toward this fantasy we still can't quite create factions resembling less-than-human, monster-like representations of goblins, orcs, kobolds and such. We can't even reach the level of goblins from previous games in the series; they're still a little too civilised and advanced no matter what you choose. The barbarian culture doesn't feel primitive and disorganised enough to fulfil this niche, plus their equipment and structures feel a bit too advanced still. Would love to see a far less civilised and wild culture so I can make rabid hordes congregating loosely under a more intelligent and imposing figure like a dragon or powerful mage! This is a classic trope that feels just barely out of reach. Maybe it wouldn't quite suit the game mechanics though considering you're supposed to be an empire capable of diplomacy and such... :Football_ThinksWhat:

What sort of things do you guys wish for most in any future DLC we may get?

I am hoping for a more Elemental magic, high tier ice or fire themed tomes possible light and blight elemental summons. A griffin mount /big beetle/ant mounts for underground.

For cultural a rogue themed or assassin culture could be fun. could be like a nomadic slaver merchant themed. shadow materium split

As could also go Mayan, Aztec themed - a more chaos order- possibly feathered serpents worshipping / cultist.

we need to wait and see might depend on how well the dlc's are selling / if have another project they want to work on.

Giant beetles should definitely make a return as a mount option and unit. Ants sound cool also.

More historically themed cultures like Aztec and Egyptian would be cool for sure, even if its just a visual reskin of sorts for your whole culture maybe? Would allow you to work towards recreating tigrans at least in the case of an Egyptian visual.

Hmm, I think adding too many risks making the cultures feel lacking in individuality. There's a popular mod on the workshop that adds tons of units for each culture and in my opinion it makes them feel more homogenised when they have units of pretty much every type in multiple tiers. One or two more could be nice though. At least another lategame one for most cultures for sure.

I'd like a terraforming overhaul. This culture, tomes and adaptation traits options that are either mutually exclusive or are stepping on each other's toes feels odd and chaotic. I'd like tomes/adaptation traits support for more types of terrain. And I'd like more terraforming options in general - with the idea being adapting the world to your needs, not the other way around. Removing mountains is cool - but maybe let us create them to say protect a flank? In the same vein (pun) maybe let us create gold, iron and mana nodes (even if not as powerful as their normal counterparts?). And how about more ways to create obstacles, cover and hazards in combat?

I'd like elementals getting more love. Tome of elementals with buffs? Counterparts to Earth Titan and Wind Rager for other elements? The HoMM Conflux-esque culture where your army consists of different kinds of elementals? Adding Druidic Terraformers simply made me realize how bare bones this aspect of the game is right now.

Wishlist:
Dlc return of the wizard throne:

Have a campaign where you play as the wizard kings during there invasion of athla.

Command powerfull spells like animate city, Divine storm, Death storm, Pestilence, wetlands, Raise mountains and all the spells you have in age of wonders shadow magic.

Summon monsters like the water serpent, The angel and fallen angel.
Build the dreadreaper, flying transport ships, wizards towers in every city.

New map feature suchs as: Logisticts matter that makes it so that units cannot turn into boats but you need transport ships, Mountains are impassible without the right trait, etc.

New map feature: Casting domain. Now spells can only be cast around heroes and inside the domains of there owners.
With wizard towers letting you cast spells far away from your domain limits.

New features suchs as using old models like the nymp, the dreadreaper, the tigran cities, etc.

New tomes: Return to the glory days of age of wonders shadow magic and unlock units suchs as the glutton, the goblin sucide bomber, the incarnate, etc.

I would like to see a dlc where they add to stuff of the previous game.
Preferably without them nerfing it into the ground to fit the games low damage gameplay.

Would definitely love to see a lot more returning from past games. There's so much cool stuff missing that could really flesh out the tome list especially. More kinds of elementals and high tier ones would be sooo good as well. Mostly only basic humanoid types is a little sad.

Agreed.
Sadly the devs don't care about fans of Age of Wonders 3 at all.

Yeah bringing back the Shadow Demons in some form would be bad ass.

On top of that, it would be cool to get some proper Fire tomes and a more infernal themed culture to go with the demonic side of Chaos.

Chaos seems to be full of contradictions at the moment, the Materium focused reaver faction has a point in Chaos and it's got Freedom and Revelry flavor events but the tomes are largely about summoning demons, and all but one of the culture backgrounds are evil aligned.

More Wind, Water, and Fire magic.

I'll give the devs credit for FINALLY including a single water tome in the game, but there should be other water tomes for Tier 1, 2, and 3.

If they were better devs they'd look to mods for inspiration since they clearly can't figure this out on their own (one of the devs straight up told me they couldn't think of ways to do it).

It's strange to have Nimue in the game and only a single Water tome she can use, or Tempest in the game when the only Air tome is Materium and it just about has to be the worst tome in the entire game.

-Skeleton form that lets you choose which skeleton race type.

-Giant Frog Mounts.

-Better medieval armors for the Feudal faction, for example Knight looks like a fullplate knight etc.

-Low Fantasy art style option.

I'm hoping that they're holding off for a big water expansion and rework, seeing as its pretty barebones. I mean, they kinda did this already but it could go a lot further. Lots of water and water-adjacent tomes could come along with this if it were ever to happen.

As you say, the lack of elemental content is rather sad considering it was the primary focus of magic in previous games...

Asia DLC that gives us Ninjas or Shinobis that assassinate those stack of heroes.

Disintegrate back from AoW3, preferable in a Chaos Tome.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3170684900

Hero Slayer enchant back

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3170678813

Hellfire should be back - also preferable in a Chaos Tome

Imagine we had in 3 games Hellfire, and this one is the one with actual a lot of demons in the game with demon dedicated spells and tomes. but there is no Hell-Fire - must be some kind of oversight.

Bring back Succubi to steal heroes. A.I. should be teached to build this unit with high priority like assassins/shinobis.

Some other iconic units, like Leprechaun, Centaur - they will teach AoW4 how ranged units look like and why they obliterate melees no matter, if its in SP or MP.

Incarnate must be back, because it was the nr1 unit in the AoW series with the most fun mechanic you can imagine. And it fits the theme of AoW4 - Incarnates wear and switch skins at will and kill the victim in the process. :D

Yeah....where is the Glutton? But looks like the Karagh made it, even tho i still never saw him in AoW4 after playing over 500 hours.

Honorable mention to: Snowscaper, Goblinbomber and Shadow Bombard each of these units teached players whats fun or whats frustration, depends how you look at it.
I want deer as combat units and the return of all the classic monsters... griffins. giant snakes of 3-4 ranks, basilisks, manticores, Cerberus... Dinosaurs. This is all.

My wishlist:

-More scale options for Dragon Lords(especially one that gives their scales and wings a feathery texture)

-A Mesoamerican styled Culture.

-Raptor and Wyvern mounts.

-Tier 3 Racial Support unit.

-More Shadow and Order Tomes.

-Major Materium Transformation.

-Return of Blighted Terrain.

-Return of some AoW 3 units, especially, but not limited to, the Feathered Serpent and Ice Queen.
Zielscheibe Mar 3, 2024 @ 9:28am
As some already mentioned, more ice- and water based tomes. Maybe going so far as to give us a major race transformation that lets us build citys on/under the water.
Also acces to the shadow realm once more and more terraforming. Not just changing the type of terrain but also the ability to add to the map. Currently we can build roads but let us dig underground entrances, build walls and watchtowers etc.
My wishlist is to NOT have any more season passes as game, with all dlcs, already cost way too much.
Astasia Mar 3, 2024 @ 3:41pm
Would be nice to see a full sized expansion with major changes to the game, like adding an entire new branch of magic with relevent empire tree and cultures/tomes, with maybe a new side progression system of some sort (similar to how the racial progression tree was added at some point in AoW3). Perhaps also adding t4 units to all cultures to alleviate the lack of variety with t4 tome unit spam late game.
