I'm tired of this ****** map generation

On left and right side you can see Golden Wonders, it's hard to make a good screenshot but hey, at least both of those are fit in one screen, reght? Yeah and both of thsoe are around AI ruler. If you look at minimap that bbrown/black is my territory and guess how many golden wonders I have there? Right 0! On our island we had only 2 silver, guess where? Right near Ai capital and other between us, guess what have been near my capital? Right one bronze wonder separated by an ocean! There were also few bronze wonders around on our island and few more Bronze and Silver wonders on the opposite island.

I got it, player always have to be in disadvantage but it's really so frustrating and annoying to play when you have no Wonders (on a Wonderous Past map trait!) around you and all the wonders only around AI. I hate this RNG map generator, I guess only 1 out of 5 maps I have some golden/silver Wonders nearby. Does everyone have such experience or is it just me super lucky?

Yeah i dont get how they manage to go from age of wonders 3 map generator that gave us wonderfull maps and so many different way to costumize it.
Too this poorly designed piece of failware.

Exactly, both AoW3 and Planetfall had solid customizable maps but now we got terrible map customization with map traits as poor bandaid.

The lack of a proper map editor like AoW3 had is honestly my biggest con about AoW4. I like pretty much everything else about 4, but the map editor is why I still have 3 installed on my computer even now.

Talking about maps. Why is there no map seed to save?

Every now and then a map emerges that I like so much that I would like to play it more often, with a different ruler/culture and trait. Shouldn't it be possible to save created maps?

I have had the same exact experience with wonderous realms, repeatedly. I've nearly completely filled out the pantheon... but since the magic victory rework, have done it only once and it still took me 50 turns longer than any other victory type, because capturing gold wonders is an exercise in both super long travel across the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ map and ridiculous research scaling.

Well regardless I do agree that we need more map options, and yes it's strange that we don't get a seed.

The map generator certainly isn't as good as it could be. AOW 3 one was better with far more options. But you can choose a realm trait when starting a new map that increases the number of wonders a lot in AOW4

Yesterday a got a map that had an AI started in the underground where there was no way of getting down to. It got stuck.

I started in the underground once and the map generation put a free city directly in the exit of the tunnel right outside my starting place. I ended up destroying them, don't want to wait for stupid pacts

You already have a Map Editor of some form or another in the current modding tools.

Just the result of Randomness. For Human Players we have controlled starts that guarantee certain placements such as the Nodes, Free City and Ancient Wonder. For AI Rulers those restrictions aren't present, so the world generation is asymmetric between Humans and AI. This means that AI might get unlucky with higher Tier Infestations or Wonders or lacking resources.

I am ok with the map generation and its randomness. But personally it is the impossibility to fix the map size that piss me off the most.

Lots of hours wasted on small maps, because lots of AIs poped underground so the map was smaller than expected. It is particularly to discover this once you have spent many hours in a game.

So now I am setting up each AI before a game, using an external rng to randomize AIs I pick, with limitation to the number of underground AIs. It works but it is painfull, and I was not expecting doing this kind of tinkering with a modern game.

Also it would be great to be able to customize the triggers for each victory. The map size impacts too much the triggers, making the game too long IMHO (T100+ game is already very long - T120+ is too much).
