Steam versus Epic for this game

I don't want to have a discussion about Steam versus Epic generally.

Currently this game Premium edition is $71.99 on Steam. It's $51 on Epic (and I think a $5 credit on top of that).

Just specifically for this game, apart from any general issues between the stores, is there any reason why to spend $26 more to get it on Steam?

Steam has workshop support. Epic has nothing.

Thanks, fair point; as I understand, I'd need to use something like Nexus Mods with an Epic version. I usually don't use mods. How important is the difference for this game?

Mods are not essential but they can improve the experience with some details that may nag you and they will definitely increase the longevity of the game in a similar way they did for AoW3.

I am trying to get a refund, there is nothing "customizable" about the races and the rest of the game is extremely boring.

war game TBS 4x with a decent tech tree and limited customization with a decent range of generally not-so-radical options sounds about right.

It has full Crossplay between all platforms I believe.

The PC version is the same regardless of what platform you buy it on I believe. So if you're looking for the best deal you can definitely shop around.

That said, try to purchase it from a company or platform that you trust. Digital store fronts tend to take people's property with them when they close their doors. I personally don't trust Epic for that reason... since their store is run at a loss and supported by their other products. You can purchase the game directly from paradox, or look around at other stores that sell game keys.... such as GoG, Amazon or even Walmart.
But my opinion of epic is just my opinion. There are just as many reasons to believe they aren't going anywhere. I've just been burned by big companies trying to squash competition before *cough* microsoft and google *cough*

Jay, I do recall with Microsoft, spending for a game I played a little, Age of Empires Online - and then they quickly just shut it down, no refunds...

The points against Epic have some merit, but the discount is hard to skip. It's hard to imagine people losing all the purchases on it...

There are other options besides purchasing directly from Steam that unlock the game on Steam allowing you to use the Workshop. I recommend checking IsThereAnyDeal[isthereanydeal.com] before you "pull the trigger."

Thanks, that's a great site I already use. Sometimes Epic has the best price.

Sometimes EGS gives games away for free. That doesn't change who a partial owner is.
