Rulers have no hero trait?
I have noticed that hired heroes all have a unique trait (for example lucky: 20% crit chance), however it seems that the ruler does not get one. Is there a reason why this is the case?

Some of the traits are really strong, it would be nice to be able to take one for your ruler.

Rulers are free, they cost 0 resources to recruit, plus if it is a wizard king or a dragon, then no heroes have those two unique skill.

I doubt they will do it, they didn't in AoW3, though they sort of did in Planetfall.

If they did anything I think it wouldn't be bad if they just allowed leaders to gain +2/3 levels more than the current max that all other heroes can, along with a bit of an xp boost to make it so that even though they have more total levels it wouldn't take any longer for them to reach max level

i.e.: If you buy a hero on turn 1 and put it in the same army as your leader and let them experience the exact same things they would hit max level at the exact same time despite the leader's max level being higher.

Rulers get the various bonuses you see when you choose which hero type you're going to play. They're also technically where all the Tomes are coming from, so you could think of them as the most powerful affinity-attuned heroes you can possibly get.

I feel like heroes are supposed to be your ruler's 'champions' of a sort, so the hero traits allow them to be a bit more distinct.

Remember that your ruler gets all the affinity from your tomes(and other unlocks), meaning a pretty substantial economic buff for the city they govern.

I would actually kind of hate it, if random traits were assigned to rulers. Imagine getting a trait does nothing for your intended playstyle, compared to one that does. A lot of people would probably restart right there, hoping to get one of the "good ones".
Even if it is nothing detrimental, the fact that it is "weaker than it could be" just does not sit well with a lot of people.
I basically never recruit pantheon heroes anymore unless they're a dragon. Then, they can be useful. Otherwise, they're a waste of a chance for offspec affinity or unique recruits.

For your ruler you could of course just choose the trait you want from a list during creation.

Agreed, it's kinda sad that your ruler is doomed to be your least cool hero. That said, hero skills in general need a rework imo. The base skills are intensely dull and the signature skills are all kinds of nonsense.

A ruler gets the Wizard King/Godir/Dragon Lord Passives (extra gold+draft Stablility/extra mana+casting with overcast/being a dragon).

You can call those hero passives but they're obviously empire passives because they have no bearing on your ruler's combat effectiveness.

Not all heros have Combat passives? They have govener passives or Reduce Upkeep passives.

Plus Wizard King lets you double cast a spell in a single turn

I'd like it if your ruler could select out of the passive hero traits and pick one of em.

Like I saw one that made the governor of a city able to recruit inferno pups from the town itself. I thought that was cool as hell and wished I could get that on my ruler lol.
