It could work as rally point for army group with an option (ON/OF) to maintain reinforcement range, so quicker armies will not use all movement points. Each army will go individually (but simultaneously) on their calculated paths, slower army first, fastest army last.
Due to pathing, some armies might end up in areas you dont want to, and you cant redo the move.
Either way, there will be several situations where you either cant or wont want to use the "group" movement that you are talking about.
It would just get your 'formation' to the farthest, accessible point on the map, based on the slowest unit.
It's doable, but I personally don't think it's needed.
