Cannon has no armour piercing?
It seems quite strange to me, as cannons have the same range as guns, have less damage overall except if you somehow manage to hit several units with one shot (but how do you do that except if the enemy stupidly bunches their units together, since you can't move and shoot?). For those who plays against friends etc the unit is completely useless, as a human opponent would never let you line a good shot.
I would honestly prefer the AoW3-style, the shot itself being 1 AP, but recharge being 3 AP. I would increase the range by 1 and increase the damage.

The value of the cannon is it out-ranges everything else, but I agree its damage is anti-climactic. It feels like the devs wanted to really set up Reavers where all the units could 'set up' other units in some way, but I would have taken higher base damage on the cannon over guard breaking.

cannon are very useful for 3 things:

1. It always hit.

2. It have long range.

3. It cancel defense mode and retaliation.

To me, it is weird that the cannon has lower damage but also no armour piercing which magelock does.
How does it outrange everything though? In my game, they have the same range as magelocks and can't be used to attack previous tiles like is possible in AoW3. Or can they?..

Because they hit 3 hexes in a straight line. Basically like adding 2 to its range on the final hex. You hold alt to ground target and catch things in the AoE.

Always hitting at extreme range is very nice, especially if the opponent has cover. Another benefit is the extra siege speed.

Yeah I found out about this one myself! This changes everything. Especially with an enchancement for +1 range and last medal.

I felt like it did not warrant a spot in a main army but was kinda nice to have in a detachment army. It does not cost gold to build so easier on the economy getting a few if you have some war spoils over.

You have to think of it more of a spellcaster than a ranged unit.
