Can I have more than 6 units?
Every time I explore ancient wonder, odds are against me. My army is 1200 and opponent is higher, sometimes the same. Is this how it should be?

There isn't a way to bring in more than 6 army units, but there are some...workarounds? One is to invest in hero skills or units that summon others. For example when you hit level 5, you often times (not guaranteed) can pick a special elemetan skill that summons stuff (undead, elementals, animal). It's strong. Also t2 artificing tome unlocks a support skill you can buy for a hero called artificer assistant or something, it starts you off with a free trashy but useful iron golem in every fight.

I would generally suggest waiting to level 5 and seeing if you can get a summoning skill on your hero before trodding in there, or at the very least pick up some excellent efficient spells from tomes like the Vine t1 nature or Icy Coffin from t1 shadow ice tome. If you can do it with less than good for you but that's just my safe starting point so to speak.

Yes. Later on you have stronger units, though.

You can have multiple attempts on an Ancient Wonder. The enemies will not recover. So if you bring them down significantly enough, you can go into wonder later again and take down the rest. In doubt, chipping away their health little by little.

my tips for dungeon in age of wonders 4 is to bring as many heroes as possible, there is literally no dungeon that a full party of heroes cannot clear.

It's not terrible advice, but the way I play is I have 1 hero leading their own stack and they're off doing different things in the world (clearing monster dens in different locations, freeing up resource nodes, assaulting enemy cities, etc). It's a luxury to me to be able to converge all my heroes to take on an ancient wonder. I guess you could make it happen with teleporters but that's kinda late in the game.

It's a very interesting and fun optimization problem of how can you clear ancient wonders with the least amount of resources, no doubt.

They are designed for one stack to be able to clear them, but you will need a strong army with good synergies, especially for silver and gold. They also grow in power with the number of turns, so if you explore one late in the game it's not uncommon to find a couple of dragons plus tier IVs, etc.

Distraction troops in your stack that dont matter if they die. Really applies to some playstyles even outside of the dungeon too

Like someone else said
-Summon undead. 3 troops.
- Summon animal 1 strong troop.
-Summon elemental can work but unit usually isnt a tank. You can treat it like one anyway though, just not as good as the other 2
All 3 unlock able as early as lvl 5 hero skill
- hoardmaster. Archer that spawns a free pet dog every battle. Doesnt mean anything if it dies tanking

- summon vines. 5 distractions the AI will waste turns on killing, this spell is not so much about rooting them. Ignore caring about spells description trying to root them. Its Just to tank hits

Use vines as front line tanks each turn and the AI will be stupid enough to exhaust all attacks on killing the vines provided you place them right in front of your front line troops to block the AI from reaching you. This spell is op and broken imo

The wonders have a difficulty indicator. They aren't all equal.

bronze landmarks can usually be cleared with little more than the starting stack you got on turn 1. Maybe you should kill a few other things around your town first to get a few level ups. A few early enchantments also won't hurt.

The silver landmarks are usually also doable with early game units.

Gold landmarks are supposed to be challenging. If you want to clear them early, an all star team of your heroes and a few t3 units you got early on may be able to get the job done.

Or you just skip them and come back later with a mid/lategame stack of t3 or higher units and/or boatloads of transmuted and enchants that turn low tier units into ungodly killer smurfs.

Summons are good, especially if you have the Weaver skill in the magic tree so you can do them again

The numbers don't really mean anything as long as they aren't drastically higher than yours. And if they are, then that is one you'll have to come back to later.

These are intended to be somewhat difficult. That is part of the strategy, whether you wait until your numbers are bigger for an easy win, or you come up with some clever strategy to take them out with smaller numbers to get an advantage on your opponents. The faster you clear them the better, but also the harder it is to do.

Is it feasible to develop heroes as fighters/casters? I tend to make all my heroes army leaders. As for wonders, by the moment you have enough cities/gold to sustain 6 heroes, your ordinary units are strong enough to clear wonders without losses, are not they?
