If that is indeed the Balor's intended size, then I feel more needs to be done to make the unit stand out. Your comparison to humanoids also shows why instead of a single troop, the unit is comprised of many - helping to render some sense of scale and competency of the unit.
Hell even the Living Fog, a t4 shadow reskin of the Balor, has more character and stands out better.
I wish Balors here lookd more like the ones in Pathfinder/DnD.
