Story Map 04 "Dark Losses"

So, you know, spoilers if you haven't played this stage yet.

So midway through the beginning, Sundren gets upset about voices. You track them down, it's a free city full of references to AoW3. That's great, I like the storytelling.

It comes with a quest "Dark Losses" with the goal of " 0/1 Spirit of Saridas Defeated". I captured the free city, but I guess maybe Saridas wasn't there at the time, or something. Now I have a quest to defeat him, but he's not on the map and the quest marker is the city I've already absorbed.

Is there a way to finish this quest?

ever find anything for this, i can't attack or change relationship to their free city so stuck with it

I played through this twice. The first time I released the city as a vassal. The 2nd time I made sure I absorbed all the objectives and this seemed to work. I got this stuck on the first goal as well. Released as a vassal, quest marker stayed. I think they need to be a bit clearer on objectives, or else it's just a bug. Anyhow, try the absorb route. I had 7 or 8 cities by the end. I released one to the AI (not a quest city).

weird I dont remember this quest, maybe I beat meandor too fast lol

I didn't get an answer, no. I just conquered by force of arms and ended with this quest still open.

If you click on the city name on the world map you can then click declare war.

Defeating them gives Sundren a bunch of EXP and a morale bonus for their army.

had the same problem with the other free city. afaik this makes the map unwinnable through quests, only through standard means (and elsewhere i read that non-quest win may not unlock the next mission). apparently that bug is very common and it's really baffling the devs haven't thought of this (capturing those cities before quest triggers).
