Portal Visuals
In world setup there is a slider called Portal Visuals that changes the image in a magical looking stargate. However there is no tooltip or explanation anywhere (that I've manged to find) that explains what, if any in-game effect this has. Can anyone enlighten me?

No ingame effect whatsoever. It's on par with changing the world's name.

It doesn't have any in-game effect. It's just so that you can decide the look of your custom realms.

It is purely cosmetic - flavour for your own creation.
