First look at Dragon Dawn - Dragon Lords
Its a bit early but Paradox has updated their own shop site for the season pass with pictures from Dragon Dawn.

Biggest surprise (for me at least) is that the dragon ruler is not just a cosmetic option or a draconic humanoid similar to the guy in Master of Magic but an actual dragon as alternative to Champion or Witch King

Actual dragons as rulers is amazing

This actually answered a question I had this morning about a fairly glaring gap in content. Materium is the only magic type without a major transformation. I see now where it went. As much as I love the game and generally don't complain about things like this, it does feel a bit like content "cut from the game and sold in a DLC" as some would say. The fact the transformation is already done and they have screens of it days after the release of the main game just kind of enforces that. It's fine though, I bought the full edition so I'm looking forward to that being added back into the game in a few months. The dragon leader stuff does look pretty cool though.

wow...draconian transformation looks terrible.

Dragon ruler is a legitimately cool idea, and the lizardmen look great.

This is true, though. Maybe they'll look less silly with different skin and hair.

Oof that looks real bad. At least from the looks of thing it will go real well with reptilian races, particularly the more already dragon-like ones like that ruler showcased in the screenshots.

I got SO fired up when I saw an actual dragon ruler was gonna be a possibility. Didn't expect that in a million years.

It probably looks better on actual draconians. Otherwise it's like... a demon or angel transformation, but dragon.

Hopefully they come with an additional army mount option, they don't look great riding that warg. They should get the draconian raptors from AoW 3 or maybe even giant frogs for those classic AoW 1 vibes and the nostalgia.

TBH i wonder who controlled the art direction in this game.
For example, the humans, elves and orcs look really good (for the most part). Some options for Halflings, and some of the monsters as well.

But then looking at the goblins and dwarves? Or molekin and toads? Horrible. I can barely make a single ruler i'd like to play with, and with the randomized factions / cities they are clearly immersion-breaking.

And for some reason, several monster types look like in those games for 5 year old children. Like that Balor with the babylegs? Who approved that for the game release?

Much of the artwork looks as if the artist had no experience with the fantasy material. Like the proportions and features of the Goblins are all wrong, compared to AOW3. One face looks a bit like the Warhammer gobbos, another like a human. Then some of the dwarven heads look like these goblins, too.
And they all have huge gaps at the neck.

Brah toads look amazing, are you high? Literally everything looks amazing as a toad.

I actually like the toads surprisingly enough, especially after I saw the face with horns over the eyes. Their heads are pretty accurate to real frogs at times, which is the best part about them.

Say what you want but who ever did the art also gave us reptilians with actual lizard, alligator and dragon-like heads as opposed to the 90s, B-movie monsters they turned the draconians into in AoW 3.

Like that Balor with the baby legs?
He'll be fine once he gets partnered up with Balor Regular Legs.
