Have this problem with the Steam edition of AoW 3 : Paradox Launcher appears, and when i click on it to start the game, "poof" = the Paradox window vanishes and the game never launches. Tried a lot of tricks to fix it and nothing worked : AoW 3 refused to start.

A few years ago, i played a lot of Steam AoW 3 on my old Windows 7 system, but now, it refuses to start on my newer Windows 10 computer. Re-purchased the game on GOG, and there, it does get past the Paradox launcher and works fine. Why this issue on Steam ?!

Hesitate to buy AoW 4 on Steam for that very same reason : am afraid that what happened to the quoted OP also happens to me -- "paradox window and poof".

Will perhaps purchase AoW 4 on GOG -- eventually ... when i read on this Steam Discussion that the game has less technical issues.

so ive replicated the issue
when paradox image starts up DO NOT CLICK your MOUSE or hold it down that causes game to PLOP right out

ya wait till other screens fly by and it works fine
i bet a ton of people had this issue and never realized its the mouse issue

I have a fresh installed Win 10. No Bugs in 17 Hours Playtime. Not all Problems are from Steam or the Game. Im Developer (No not AOW4), but trust me Microsoft sucks.:steamfacepalm:

Oh but i had a problem with AOW3 after changing the resolution in the launcher. I had a black window and not a running fullscreen game. After a restart of windows no problem. Maybe you can find a hint searching for win 10 steam problems or something like that.:watchingyou:

Hey Philo103, I'm quite sure what you experienced here but we never updated AoW3 to make use of the Paradox Launcher. It still uses the Triumph launcher to this day.

Then, my memory was incorrect : it must have been the Triumph Launcher that refused to make me start the AoW3 game on Steam, with Windows 10. Do not have that problem since I re-purchased AoW3 on GOG ... so you guys benefited from me twice ;) Not a problem : game was not expensive on GOG, and since it is such a beautiful game, I don't mind having had to purchase it twice ;) So, I stand corrected : it must have been the Triumph Launcher, when I tried it in February -- after a few years of not playing it, since my Windows 7 system died. I could re-install again on Steam and see what happens. Thank You for caring ;)

Since I have enjoyed the first 3 AoW titles, it is my firm intention to buy AoW 4 -- at full price ;) My current reservation is pure technical caution : after reading a lot of forum posts on technical issues, I do not wish to have my system's CPU or GPU "melt" just to play a game ;) Will wait for the game to be patched a few times to resolve the most serious, posted technical issues. When forum discussions reassure me that the game can run decently fine without "melting" anything, I shall purchase it -- at full price ;) Several forum posters have displayed a lot of technical expertise concerning tricks to solve the technical issues, but I am no such expert : expect that game Devs fix those issues -- not ordinary gamers, who should not have to edit files to make a paid software run with reasonable stability, on average computers. (Read that even some people with 32 GB of RAM on above-average systems experience problems.)
