The first map you have to be a champion.
The second map you can pick whatever.
The characters are different per map.
So you arent stuck with one.
What is better - champion or wizard?
I only play wizard king and honestly i dont notice a difference outside of better looking gear, being able to have a different race then my leader and being able to cast spells twice in a single combat turn.
From what i understand you have an easier time with free cities diplomacy if you go champion but i woudnt know as i mostly just conquer everything.
Wizard kings have more customisation: Form and outfits. The double cast is powerful from my perspective it's the better choice but in the end it will not make much of a difference.
Level 10 that’s 50 extra casting points, level 20 it’s a 100. You can cast a lot more spells with that.
Ah I missed that, that explains the massive spike in casting points in my endgame.
Definitely this, no contest. You can basically s*it out summons multiple times a round with those casting points.
Mmmmm stuck? If you can choose you are not stuck.
Wizard is vastly superior for combat and conquest as well as armies focused on using magic, magic origin creatures and stacking enchantments.
I start Champion to learn the ropes then switched to Wizard and never looked back. To be honest the option for ruler type is pointless when theres only 2 choices and theres a clear winner.
Why are you repeating what i said?
So, if you want one of those awesome Nazgul-esque warlock helmets on your leader, you'll have to make a champion of the Dark culture, etc.
Game's still new, so we'll find out tips and tricks, but I imagine they lend themselves to different builds as well. Building for free cities/vassals or strategies that don't rely on pumping out tons of magic every turn (Materium and/or enchantment heavy, for example) may benefit more.
I have played a necromancer faction with a wizzard king too. I mean when you cast a lot and i had to cast a lot with my necromancer the wizzard king is far superior in terms of magic hero of course.
You will end up summoning in the end game, for sure.
All will tell you Wizard,. because they play into wizard.
I say Champion.
Move, found outpost, make outpost as fast as possible into city, release city into vassal, get 2-3 extra armies.
Rince and repeat, and grap the map this way.
