Conquest of EO got a little repetitive for me. I'm going to try it again as only did about dozen hours but AoW4 I think will have better replay value.
Both are better then the master of magic.
The strategic map is way better in spellforce in terms of story events and feeling "alive".
AoW wins on faction customization and custom realms, obviously.
I hope someone makes a mod making AoW play like spellforce because it's not a million miles away but I just can't get into AoW yet. Everything feels kinda dead..
I usually use one army to go around the map and do nothing but mine and harvest, then sell those items to feed my overall military, works well for me.
It's damn good!
Only thing with EO, while the map takes time to get to know there is only one map in the entire game. Which eventually becomes stale.
This game is great on it's own but I like your idea about making a mod with EO characteristics for even more fun :)
But it is better the Conquest of EO on everything front.
This is kind of where I'm at though the tombs and items found throughout the game can radically change the combat, maybe more so than COE. Just takes a bit to get some interesting stuff to play with.
That's easily my biggest issue, the one map, definitely gets old after 40 hours or so.
I agree for the most part, though COE has it's own charm and the battles and units are pretty damn good, IMO.
However, there are other features where SF:CoE does clearly better. Particularly Magic Research.
I personally prefer slightly more manageable fights with 6-10 units per side but really impactful damage rather than 6-20+ units in AOW, where I personally just give up and autoresolve.
I need to spend more time with AOW to fully get a sense of it, though.
