Grievance system doesn't seem well thought out

I've seen someone just say turn on teams to disable this, but it feels strange to do remotely anything and it generates a grievance. I'd understand causing border friction, but the first map the elf lady gave me a quest to conquer a dungeon. I went to do that, and got a grievance with them. Why am I getting a grievance for something I was asked to do?

You need a lot of grievances for it to matter, something like grabbing a claimed location is trivial and costs like 50 gold to buy off if it bothers you. If you have the appropriate treaties you don't have to worry about getting grievances.

Greivances doesn't equate to instant war and you can sign an agreement with factions that you wont gain greivances for settling land near their borders.

After you're good enough friend with an empire, you can Wizard Bond with them, which unlocks more treaties that you can make. Open Borders means you won't be trespassing if you go through their territory, and Province-Claims pact mens that both empires can yoink each other's claimed provinces without generating grievances.
