Countering low City Happiness
My capital is at -33 due to tile improvements, I have a few buildings to raise loyalty but it doesn't seem to be enough. I'm playing as the dark class this game. What options do I have?

Dark cultures have less options to raise happiness, as you noticed.

But Dark cultures also suffer near no penalty from low happiness, so you don't have to worry about it usually.

yea.. it's my first game and.. I suffer with all my cities being angry! :O

That reminds me of civilization, haha
Try to hone on the tavern? Also gonna hold off on land thingy (farm, forester, etc... ) or maybe destroy some (each cost 5 happiness)

I mean will try that later today.. after sleeping, during my impromptu "sick day". Damn you Age of Wonders!!!

Thanks, does the tavern have requirements? I'll have to check it out.

Ah ok, good to know. Do I still get the income penalty though?

I don't see any options for a tavern, it looks like my culture can't build it. :steamfacepalm:

I did find a way to lower it. I had a quest where my race wanted to create a magic tome, and I chose the first option, giving a malus to mana but a bonus to stability based on my mana income. I'm at +20 in all cities now.

If you have an unused Whispering Stone, give it your city. It can increase happiness up to +30. An image where to find the option I have embedded here

Having your income drastically cut because of low stability/happiness isn't what I would categorize as "near no penalty".
When I did my Order/Good save, I had 600+ gold income and 300+ mana income and quite high for the others, too.
For my Shadow/Evil save, I stayed under 200 gold income and under 100 mana income until around turn 120. Neither got to even half of what the Good save had.

Everything about the alignment system passive aggressively forces you to go Good.

For Good, you get 10/20/30% chance for positive events.
For Evil you get 10/20/30% chance for negative events.

Pretty much everything discourages playing Dark/Evil. It's kinda dumb.

Not at all.

"Playing Evil" means your economy is based on aggression. (Especially if you take the traits that give you resources everytime you kill an enemy unit.)

Attack your neighbors. Raze and pillage their lands. Choose the mini-quest options that give you material rewards in exchange for Alignment hits. Do all the things that being "Good" gets massive penalties from.

ummmm... no, Dark has city building behind Town Hall upgrades that just reads "ignore stability penalties" the first one is after the first town hall upgrade and lets you ignore the economic penalties, and then after the T3 town hall you can build a building that doesn't let provinces leave due to low stability.

Aggressive playstyle and Dark are not the same thing. You're confusing the terms. Nothing in the Shadow line rewards you for razing or pillaging.
You get just as many material rewards for Good alignment choices and just as many Evil choices that give no reward.
My points still stand.

Must be bugged then. Because when I went from -35 stability to -10, my economy changed by the stated percentage in the tooltip.

Dunno how long you have to be at the worst range of stability, but I was in that range for almost 10 turns before I had the Overlord Tower built and none of my provinces left.

Honestly, for both of those, I wouldn't be surprised if it's bugged, not working as it's meant to be. Not like there's a lack of that happening.

True. Which is also equally dumb. Going to war against demon worshipers and necromancers is a pretty obvious Good action. The whole alignment system is weird in this.

I actually agree with that, but have you tried razing some provinces when they bunker up with a doomstack so they run out of resources and lose their units? You lose alignment so fast, -5 for each province.

Actually, reading what I wrote, that's actually pretty evil huh.

You need to build the structure before it does anything...
