Tactical battles in multiplayer
The question is, for those who played in multiplayer - when one player is in a tactical battle, do others have at least some activity or, for example, watching the battle, like in TotalWar?

we tried to play part 3 with four of us, but after about an hour we made a refund, because as soon as someone enters into a tactical battle, for everyone else the screen closes the sign "Player_name in battle", without the ability to simply manage their territory or observe
(moreover, in Endless Legends with exacly same global map + tactical battles system, there was no such nonsense, the battles went parallel to the gameplay and did not stop the gameplay)

Observing player battles outside your view has to be enabled in the realm options

You can't take any actions while another player is battling. There is an "Observe Manual Combat" option when you create a lobby that has the options "always", "when location is visible" and "never".

We played our first game with "always", but it gives the other players a lot of information they would otherwise not have.

In our next game we will switch to "when location is visible" and just dabble in the encyclopedia during battle.

Kinda sad. Looks like, its time to remove it from wishlist :(

AoW 3 was playable with 2 people but you felt bad not auto resolving combat sometimes to respect the other player's time. With 3 people or more it's just not playable IMO. Unless you auto resolve every combat which is boring. I guess the amount of 3+ player groups that care about this isn't enough to justify the effort for the devs?

Anyway I'll keep looking back every few months at AoW 4 to see if proper simultaneous turns are added and if that happens i'll buy the game.

Generally, multiplayer in this is done with autoresolving all battles involving the AI, and only playing out battles between players. Endless Legend battles are relatively simplistic and quick compared to here.

In total war you can take control of the enemy units to screw with the other player, just an idea.

I think they should refactor the part of the game that is responsible for this and allow all functions that have no impact on the situation.
Like changing building queues, equiping items, etc.

That's a disappointment. Another point for games like Civ I suppose. Hopefully the developers become braver and respect the fun and enjoyment of people in multiplayer games in the future.

Ah yes
Fun
Spending 10 minutes in a siege battle only to come out and see that you've lost every city and there was nothing you could do to stop it because you were stuck in a battle.

I don't think either of us has any idea of what you're talking about. Why would someone be able to prompt multiple battles with the same person while they're locked in the first one? Furthermore, why are we assuming that every turn you stand on the precipice of defeat? There are many ways to allow player agency (and subsequently enjoyment) towards other aspects of the game while keeping things fair.

This is sad. I'm playing my first and last multiplayer I guess. This staring at my screen is boring as...
