Appreciate this is an old rig but is anyone else playing with older systems and if so, is it playable?

i think 1080p would work easily, 720p a walk in the park

You could always test it out and refund within the 2 hour limit. I'm running a rig that's a bit stronger (i7 3770k and GTX 1060) and it runs okay-ish on low-medium settings at 1080p. I get 60 fps+ on the worldmap but about 45 fps in battles so far. It's not great but it's playable

playing on a i5-3470 and gtx 1050ti and get okish performance but I really hope with time the game runs better with some optimization done to it

Don't count on it, there has been optimization done already. Remember the initial recommended specs asked for a Rtx 2060 Super.
It's not going to get a whole lot better is what I'm saying.
If you know Triumph games, you should have know already, that what they consider 'recommended' is right at the very edge of being a lie, that is, you'll probably need something stronger to enjoy stable 60fps @max.

Yeah, gotta really invest in a whole new PC tho. Can't really upgrade this one

Yes, that platform is ancient by todays standards.
But you can do what I did, buy used. I'm running an AM4 platform right now, and just bought a Rx 6700 XT 12GB for it as well. Running the game in 1440p @Ultra no problem.
The funny thing is, the whole system wasn't even that expensive and it runs everything I've tested so far at max settings no problem.
