do summoned units benefit from your body and mind traits?
as an avid fan of age of wonders 3, triumph has done a LOT to make nearly-pure summoning a more accessible option in age of wonders 4. wizard king, the separation of combat and world casting points, summoned units having access to more rank bonuses and other things i'm not remembering.

but i'm wondering if anyone knows if summoned units benefit from the body and mind trait chosen in faction creation? my common sense tells me no because summoned units aren't, technically, your faction's "race." but at the same time it would really take away from a faction build if summoned units didn't benefit from body/mind traits.

anyone know for sure? if not, guess i'll find out tomorrow.

I doubt it, Mind & Body traits are Form traits, therefore should take after forms. Although I did see Tome units taking a race's form. And each culture's has enchantment to add cultural mechanic to outside units, so not a total lost.

Summoned units aren't considered racial units and they won't be affected by those traits. Some tome units that are trained from your cities, are of your race, and will get your racial bonuses.

well i guess i can look at it with a silver lining. if summoned units aren't affected by those traits, i'll take traits that don't boost units. maybe i'll do spider mounts for webbing crowd control to benefit my summons and then some sort of climate adaptation.

make it work somehow i guess lol.

Probably not, and units are probably balanced with this in mind.

The quick answer is no.

Edit: Actually, I think some may. I think it depends. I would say for like elementals, but you have to wonder, why it would. However, other things, like undead, will probably be different based on the choices you make.

the "why" to your question is that in age of wonders 3 almost all powerful tier 3 units, and your tier 4 unit for sorcerer, were summons. but they still benefited from your race because of the racial governance system. like elves getting more casting points for example. in age of wonders 4, if you go mystic and assuming your high tier units are once again summons, they won't benefit at all from your racial body/mind trait. so if you plan on leaning into summons heavily as a mystic/wizard king, your choices of body/mind traits that actually benefit you start to get real narrow.

but if that's how the devs want it then that's how it will be. i've never gotten that worked up over balance in aow because it's usually easy enough to mod the game to play how you want.

for example, i could make a mod that edits a mind trait to reduce my faction's magic origin unit upkeep by 10% or something.

and that's what's great about these games. there's always a flavor for everyone to enjoy. and you can create your own flavor too lol.

Yes and no. It depends on the unit. I think there is a ghost unit for example that is using your form, but stuff like animals wont.
