how many units can i bring into the field?

when i watch gameplay videos i often only see 6vs6 fights but sometimes you also see fights with more ? are those campania fights? Or do I have to place two armies of 6 side by side on the Kamania map?

One army can have 6 units maximum.
You can put multiple armies around the target and attack with them together.
Some story missions or dungeons or wonders can only be entered with one army.
Most streams are from the start of the game where you only have one army, that is why you see many 6vs6.

One stack can have 6 units in it. Any stack within 3 hexes of the target hex can join the battle. There is a limit too how many additional stacks that can join but i don't remember what it is. It is at least 3 stacks per side, so you can have battles that are 18 vs 18.

Your standart army has 6 units, but you can bring more armys in an battle. you no longer need too place them right next to the fight like it was in AoW 3 or PF. I believe the troops have to be in the same province as the battle.
Not sure if there is a limit.
