Question about tomes.. "those you choice with magic

ive heard there is 52 to choice from.. though at the start the game let you choice 1 of a couple.. like ice, stone, fire, etc..

my question is.. do anyone know how you get more?... and how many different tomes can you have at one and the same time?.. i strongly dont belive you can have all 52, sounds a bit over powered..

You can't have all because they have prerequisites. You start at tier 1 tome, slowly you build up towards tier 5 from your alignments.

You get next tome after doing some research from previous one - every 4 finished researches give you option to select next tome. And you can theoretically have 49 tomes - 2 tomes per tier 1-4 for all six ainities and one single tier 5 tome. But game will end far earlier then you reserch 49 tomes.

You start with 1 tier 1 tome, after doing your second, you can pick your first t2 tome. Then after 2 t2s a t3, and after 2 t3s a t4, but the t4 has affinity requirements. But it is quite low, like 6 for a t4 tome. After getting 2 t4 tomes, you can pick 1, and only 1 as in you wont ever get a second, t5 tome.

Though, you can allways pick lower tier tomes. Each affinity has 9 bocks. 2 of each tier but only 1 t5. So you could have 1 t5 and 6x4x2 tomes. But the game will end at some point, so dont expect that to happen.

i still not really understand lol..
you mean that "as an example".. you can have many low tire tomes. or trade some of for a higher tire.. and you can have more then one as for example.. the stone tome, and the ice tome together.. or only 1 active at a time?.. i see not all 52 is choicable at caracter creation..
and what about the skill tree ? i heard a dev say you can only go down one path.. with those afinity points..

You pick a tome, research its content. After unlocking a bit of its stuff, you can pick another one. Once you have at least 2 tomes of tier 1, you can pick the next higher tier. So after finishing root and zeal for example, you could take a t2 chaos tome. You dont lose tomes, you dont trade them in.

It is allways, research 2 tomes of currently available tier, to earn the right, to get the next higher tier.

Only t4 and t5 are also locked behind an affinity requirement. So if you spread your affinity to thin, you wont get too t4 for a while.

An example of how it works. Keep in mind you must research 4 research projects per tome to unlock another: We're also going to ignore any other affinity sources like cultures, quests, heroes and the like. Or free tomes from doing hard quests as rewards:

Tome 1: Faithful (Tier 1, +2 Order for 2 order affinity total)
Tome 2: Beast (Tier 1, +2 Nature for 2 nature affinity total)
Tome 3: Beacon (Tier 2, +2 Order, now 4 Order total)
Tome 4: Glades (Tier 2, +2 Nature, now 4 Nature total)
Tome 5: Vigor (Tier 3, +2 Nature, now 6 Nature total)
Tome 6: Sanctuary (Tier 3, +2 Order, now 6 Order total)

We now can choose either a tier 4 order or a tier 4 nature affinity tome and only those, since we only have 6 order and nature affinity. Lets continue:

Tome 7: Tome of Nature's Wrath (Tier 4, +2 Nature now 8 Nature total)
Tome 8: Exaltation (Tier 4, +2 Order, now 8 Order total)

We now have access to either Tome of the God Emperor or Tome of the Goddess of Nature as our highest tier tome. Both may require their affinity buildings (seed and root) in addition to 8 overall affinity. I should maybe check if the building thing is true but whatever. :p

It took a total of 32 research projects to unlock the final Tome.

Anyways the last tier is exclusive and once you build the heart of the affinity from it, you are on your way to research victory countdown and get supercharged buffs to your faction to defend yourself.

When i said "last" tome in regards to tier 5 tomes I meant highest tier tomes (fixed it in the post). You can still research other tomes even after reaching tier 5.

You can also research tomes wide instead of tall to get a wide arrange of lower tier tome bonuses. The problem with researching lots of different affinity tomes is that you may be softlocked out of a tier 4 tome until you get more affinity, by either researching another tome or getting affinity by another means.

The tomes don't evolve. They're tomes unto themselves and the remaining research in them is available to research forever. Think of it like filling up your library with magical books, rather than one book magically becoming another better book. Once you research 4 things in that book you think "Hmm, I think i'm ready to open up this other book and start studying it instead." :)

If you start with like 6 Shadow Affinity because of your creation choices + 1st tome, you're already set basically to get your tier 4 shadow tome, even if every other tome is of a different affinity type. No more affinity needed for that step. just the two tier 3 tomes.

So in the example above if we took out Tome of Faith for Cryomancy (+2 shadow) as our starting tome in addition with a full shadow start for +6 shadow affinity on turn 1, we would lose access to every order tome tier 4 and up because we only have 4 total order affinity now, not counting any other sources. However, we would be able to take a tier 4 shadow tome once we get there because we already have 6 shadow affinity. to get access to tier 4 Order tomes we would have to find a way to get another 2 order affinity by that point.

No. There is no way to upgrade an existing tome. You unlock extra tomes, many of which are related to earlier tomes.

Example, you pick the tier 1 necromancy tome at the start, the Tome of Souls, then after researching enough to unlock a tier 2 tome choice, there is the tier 2 Tome of Necromancy to focus more on undead magic.

Or for your example of ice magic, you'd pick the Tome of Cryomancy at tier 1, and that would be it until you unlocked a tier 3 tome, when you could choose the Tome of the Cold Dark.
