I'd add Free cities vs minor factions from Planetfall
Planetfall is like a family restaurant. You pick your main dish, your drink, maybe some desserts, and there's your combo.
AoW4 is like a buffet. You mix and match from a bunch of different foods and drinks.
* No hugging to join combat.
* Better Random questing
* Underground
* Race making
* Instant province capture after 1 pop growth.
AoW4 is more like a tasting menu restaurant. You get little nibbles of more stuff.
I think the experience will be quite different than Planetfall. I think i will eventually play them side by side.
-Provinces are considerably smaller than Sectors and you get 1 per population instead of 4. (Cities go up to 30 population and you don't have district build caps)
-Unit Enchantments are global and replace the Mod system of Planetfall.
-Racial Transformations are another upgrade layer that affects an entire race with no upkeep
-No "Dwellings"; game uses an extensive vassalization system instead
-Exotic units come from Wonders(Landmarks), Hero Traits, and Tomes/Buildings
-Marauders('barbarians') use an "Infestation" system now that can grow over time.
-Anomalies are gone; AoW4 has random event-chains instead
-AoW4 has an underground map layer
-Heroes are no longer static and are randomly generated/fully customizable
-All heroes can govern cities; Feudal Culture gets extra bonuses/traits like Oathsworn
-Heroes can be captured on defeat, placing them in the captor's jail/crypt for political and nefarious purposes.
-Aside from Culture and Leader Origin(which are the closest analogues to class/secret projects), your playstyle is mostly determined by the tomes you choose to research while you're playing instead of what you selected before the game began.
Dozens of other differences beyond this. The team has been busy.
The empire allowed me to develop the chosen nation in my own company, and with each card it became a little stronger
AoW4 plays each map without any connection to the previous one.
Not true.
Pantheon system and who knows what the future will bring.
Also, older (fantasy) AoW iterations never had anything of the sort.
